Chapter 5: Do Not Snatch the Red Envelope
Except for Song Feng, Murong Feng, and a few others, everyone turned to look at him.
"Xiao Fan, why don't you speak?" Su Qianqian said, her face pale as snow.
"The question Ma Xiaoshu asked was, who is your most beloved person? Actually, whether you answer Zhou Lei or Murong Feng, it's wrong. Because for everyone, the person they love most is themselves! People are selfish by nature."
Zhang Xiaofan scanned the entire class as he spoke.
His words jolted everyone awake from their dreams. On the podium, Shen Fengxing nodded, his face ashen, and said, "So the correct answer should have been Ma Xiaoshu herself. What a pity."
Ding!
Bao Lei: The game is over. You may now move freely!
Immediately afterward, the student sitting by the door pushed it open and found it could be opened. Many rushed out, vomiting repeatedly. Some called 110, others their parents, but to their despair, whenever they tried to talk about the red envelope group, their mouths would open, yet no matter what, they couldn't utter a single word.
The police and medical staff who had been there before arrived once more, expressionless, swiftly clearing away the bodies and leaving.
By now, the students were numb, knowing these police officers were utterly useless—perhaps not even real police.
During the break, the students whispered among themselves. Some said they would stop coming to school. Others talked about inviting a priest home. Everyone endured until dismissal, then fled in a rush.
In the dorm that night, Zhang Xiaofan kept replaying the events in the classroom. Suddenly, he got out of bed, realizing things couldn't continue like this. If he wasn't careful, he might lose his life here.
He hurried to pack his belongings, only to discover the three roommates had the same idea and were packing up as well.
"Damn it, I can't go on with school. At worst, I'll give up the diploma," Liu Kaijian grumbled as he packed.
"Right, if we keep going, more people might die," Jiang Jiehui agreed.
Zhang Xiaofan said nothing throughout, as he felt deep down that things were far from simple.
Once his things were packed, ding!
WeChat chimed again.
Bao Lei: Anyone who leaves the class without permission will be considered to have forfeited their life!
"What the hell is going on?" someone asked on WeChat.
"I just finished packing."
"Me too, was just about to get in the car."
Su Qianqian: Everyone, come back. If we really run away, the ghost will likely kill those who flee.
"Damn, we can't leave," Jiang Jiehui cursed softly, putting his packed things back.
Zhang Xiaofan did the same. He opened the group chat, glanced at the red envelopes that hadn't been claimed yet, instinctively tapped one, and found it couldn't be claimed anymore.
(So strange. Only three people claimed red envelopes today, and it hasn't even been twenty-four hours, yet they're already unavailable.)
Suspicious, Zhang Xiaofan checked his phone's wallet and saw the black red envelope icon still showed twelve yuan.
(What use is this twelve yuan I got?)
He pondered quietly as he and his roommates lay down, but none of them managed to sleep that night.
The next day, many students arrived at school with dark circles under their eyes. Shen Fengxing, the highest authority in their class, stood at the podium, counted heads, and frowned, saying, "Today, Sun Yang hasn't come to school."
"Hmph, he only shows up on WeChat when it's time to send red envelopes. If you ask me, he's behind all this."
"Definitely. Maybe there's no ghost at all, it's just Sun Yang's witchcraft."
"Yesterday, I tried to tell my parents what happened, but I couldn't get the words out, no matter what."
"Me too. It was as if my mouth suddenly wasn't mine anymore."
"Alright, quiet down," Shen Fengxing raised his hand and said, "It seems all our messages can't get out. The teachers think the deaths are normal, just the result of mental illness."
"So what now? Are we all going to die?"
Ding!
"Everyone, stop arguing. Look at WeChat, Sun Yang sent another red envelope."
Zhang Xiaofan stood up and shouted, "This time, no one should claim it!"
"Yes, don't claim it!" Wang Hu echoed urgently.
At once, everyone refrained from claiming it. After all, this time, whether they could break free from the game depended on their caution.
"Whoever claims it, I'll beat them to death," Wang Hu threatened, then checked WeChat.
Ding!
Bao Lei: Zhang Xiaofan and Wang Hu have disrupted the game. Two options will now appear.
Option One: Zhang Xiaofan and Wang Hu must engage in a sexual relationship.
Option Two: Zhang Xiaofan must jump out the classroom window!
Time limit: twenty-four hours.
"Just because I warned everyone, I get punished?" Zhang Xiaofan stared at WeChat in disbelief.
These two options were unbearable for Zhang Xiaofan. First, a relationship with Wang Hu—who was Wang Hu? The class tyrant. Zhang Xiaofan knew he wasn't a match for him, and besides, Wang Hu was a man. Even if Wang Hu agreed, he wouldn't! The second option was even harder to accept: they were on the third floor, eight or nine meters high. Jumping out would surely cripple or kill him.
Not just Zhang Xiaofan, many classmates looked at him strangely, their gazes fixed on him.
Wang Hu slammed his desk, pointed at Zhang Xiaofan, and cursed, "Zhang Xiaofan, if you dare touch me, I'll throw you out the window!"
"Yeah, mess with Hu-ge and you'll get beaten," his cronies jeered.
"Zhang Xiaofan, you should pick the second option," Wang Hu's followers shouted.
"Don't worry, even if you wanted to touch me, I wouldn't let you. Disgusting!" Zhang Xiaofan turned away from Wang Hu, his mind in chaos, searching desperately for a solution. What should he do this time?
"But the second option means Zhang Xiaofan jumps off the building," Su Qianqian, the class monitor and a genuinely kind person, looked at Zhang Xiaofan with concern, speaking up for him.
"Relax, that height won't kill him," Wang Hu sneered, immediately choosing option two.
His cronies hurriedly followed suit.
"What should we do?" Hu Xiaotian asked Zhang Xiaofan anxiously.
Several roommates gathered around, worried and asking what to do.
Shen Fengxing frowned and said, "Maybe... we should all choose option one. Wang Hu, maybe you could make a sacrifice..."
Even as he said it, he felt embarrassed. After all, they were all normal people; two men together was unimaginable.
Wang Hu slammed his desk and cursed, "Damn you, Shen Fengxing! Don't think being vice class president lets you boss me around. Watch out, or I'll beat you too."
Shen Fengxing's face darkened, his eyes betraying a hint of fear. He pushed his glasses and said, "Then everyone can just vote as they please."
"As you please? I'd like to see who dares vote for option one," Wang Hu glared around the room.
Song Feng stood up, chuckling. He was one of the few in class who dared challenge Wang Hu.
Seeing his sinister smile, Wang Hu frowned, "What, you're going to oppose me?"
"Wrong. I just want to see Zhang Xiaofan jump," Song Feng replied, turning to look at Zhang Xiaofan coldly. "Everyone vote for option two, understood?"
"Alright!"
