Chapter 81: Damn, This Certificate Is Poisoned!

The first document was an ID card: Chen Yun, eighteen years old.
The second was a special-grade firearms permit!
The policeman was visibly shaken; this kid actually had a special-grade firearms permit, something typically reserved only for vice-national-level figures or those above level seven practitioners—people of great importance. How could this kid possess such a thing? Could it be a forgery?
Noticing the skeptical look in the policeman's eyes, Chen Yun quickly said, "Officer, my permit is absolutely genuine. If you don't believe me, take a look at the back."
The back? The officer turned the permit over, thinking, "What could be on the back?" After all, he had a firearms permit himself, and the back just had the Dragon Empire’s flag and… Good heavens!
The policeman took one glance and, terrified, threw the permit away, collapsing onto the ground, trembling like a leaf, staring at Chen Yun with lips twitching uncontrollably, unable to utter a single word.
"Captain, what's wrong? Did you see a ghost?"
"Captain, what did you see to scare you like that?"
"Did you see a bomb on that permit or something?"
The remaining three officers were baffled at their captain’s reaction. The captain was famously fearless in the precinct, even daring to argue with the chief. What on earth had he seen to leave him in such a state?
Another officer picked up the permit, glanced at it, and immediately fainted.
"What the—what’s going on?" Yet another officer walked over, picked up the permit, took one look, yelped, his eyes rolled back, and he convulsed on the spot.
"Damn, this permit must be cursed!" The last officer, now panicking, thought the document was too eerie. Three people had looked at it: one was stunned, one fainted, and the last went into convulsions. Could the permit be laced with some new kind of virus?
Yes, that must be it!
Terrified, the officer drew his gun and shouted at Chen Yun, "You! Hands on your head, get down, now!"
"My god, Xiao Li, put the gun down!" The first officer, seeing Xiao Li actually pointing a gun at such a powerful figure with an unimaginable background, nearly suffered a heart attack on the spot. With a leap, he tackled Xiao Li to the ground.
...Xiao Li was utterly confused. What just happened? Why did the captain tackle him?

Captain Miao snatched the gun from Xiao Li’s hand, unlocked Chen Yun’s handcuffs, then respectfully picked up the special-grade firearms permit and ID, handing them back to Chen Yun with both hands.
"I’m terribly sorry, sir. Please forgive us. I apologize on Xiao Li’s behalf. We didn’t know who you were. I’m so sorry, truly."
Captain Miao’s heart pounded furiously. He could never have imagined that this young man’s connections would rival those of the emperor himself—one of the empire’s three guardian deities, Jiang Tian. Good heavens, he had just seen the golden seal of Guardian Jiang Tian! That alone was enough to brag about for a lifetime.
"It’s fine. You were just doing your job. I don’t blame you. I was in a hurry to visit a family member and rode a bit fast, ran a few red lights. That was my mistake, and I’ll correct it in the future," Chen Yun said matter-of-factly, without putting on airs. He was always straightforward—right was right, wrong was wrong, no need to beat around the bush.
"No, no, no, you did nothing wrong! You ride splendidly, marvelously! I watched the surveillance footage—you rode with such elegance, such style—I truly admire you!"
Captain Miao was sweating profusely. How could someone of this stature ever be in the wrong? Clearly, the fault lay with them. He’d have to report to his superiors that the highway speed limits couldn’t be set too low in the future—maybe raise it to 600 kilometers per hour. As for red lights… one every 1000 kilometers would suffice. Too many just get in the way.
"..." Chen Yun was speechless. It seemed this officer had been scared out of his wits—he was rambling incoherently.
"Alright, you all get back to work. I’ll be on my way."
"Take care, sir. Have a safe journey..."
As Chen Yun walked away, Captain Miao let out a long sigh. He had truly been frightened—his shirt was soaked in cold sweat. My god, who on earth had courted disaster this time, trying to arrest someone close to the general? Were they out of their minds?
"Captain, what’s going on...?" Xiao Li got up, still dazed. What had the captain seen to make him so afraid, even to the point of fawning over that man? That wasn’t like him at all.
"You’ve got guts, pointing a gun at... that man. Thank goodness he didn’t hold it against us little nobodies. Otherwise, we wouldn’t even know how we died," Captain Miao said. "Get those two into the car. We’re heading back to the station to report this!"
"...Okay."
As for this little episode, Chen Yun paid it no mind. With his changing identity and growing power, his outlook was shifting as well. He knew such incidents would only become more frequent in the future.
Chen Yun didn’t go far. Instead, he waited in a small pavilion outside the hospital entrance. He knew that once his master and mistress discovered their legs were healed, they wouldn’t stay in the hospital any longer. They’d be eager to check out and hurry home to reassure friends and family.
And why was he so certain? Who in good health would ever want to linger in a hospital? Most people would rather never set foot in one their whole lives.

Sure enough, after waiting two hours, he saw his master and mistress leave the hospital and catch a bus at the roadside. Chen Yun followed on his electric scooter.
Hu Dan Niu’s home was in a small village called Great Ox Village, over forty li from Fire Rooster County.
"Master’s name is Hu Dan Niu, the village is Great Ox Village—wait, don’t tell me the place was named after him? Is he really that impressive?" Chen Yun was musing to himself, but in the next moment, he got his answer.
"Hu Dan Niu, didn’t you break your leg and get admitted to the hospital? How come you’re back today? Just yesterday, Village Chief Ma Da Niu was rallying everyone to visit you. Look, Yu Da Niu and I were just about to drop by your place."
"It’s Huang Da Niu and Yu Da Niu, eh? My leg’s healed, of course I’m back. What, you expect me to stay there for a year or two?"
"Healed already?! Hospitals these days are amazing. You break a leg and they fix it in less than a day?"
...Chen Yun nearly fell off his scooter—the origin of Great Ox Village was finally clear. Apart from different surnames, everyone in the village was named Da Niu!
"Hu Dan Niu, you shouldn’t have come back," Yu Da Niu whispered. "Last night, I saw some punks lurking around your house. I’m pretty sure it was that gang from town—they’re just waiting for you to come home."
"What?" Hu Dan Niu was alarmed. "Are they still around?"
"No, I just passed by your place—no one’s there."
"That’s good. I only came back to grab a few things before hiding out in the county for a while."
"Probably for the best. They can’t watch your house every day. In a while, they’ll forget about you. You’d better hurry, the sooner you pack, the sooner you can leave. I’ll keep an eye on your land for you."
"Thanks so much. When this blows over, drinks are on me."
"We’re neighbors—no need for thanks. Go on, get moving."
Hearing all this, and recalling the conversation he’d overheard that morning using his map’s target search and lock-on tracking features, Chen Yun finally understood the full story.
