“Da Niu, do you think there’s anything wrong with our legs?” Li Xiaohua asked anxiously, glancing at the doctor’s solemn expression.

“I doubt it. I actually feel quite comfortable. Why, is it only normal if we're writhing in pain?” Hu Daniu replied, puzzled.

“That’s not what I mean. Just look at the doctors’ faces—they scare me,” Li Xiaohua fretted.

“What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like we’re dying. Worst case, I can’t work in the kitchen anymore. I’ll just sit and steam buns to sell—you and our child won’t starve,” Hu Daniu said, stretching his numb leg absentmindedly.

Li Xiaohua’s eyes widened in shock as she saw her husband’s leg move. Unable to contain her excitement, she shouted, “Daniu, your leg—!”

Hu Daniu stared in astonishment at his outstretched leg. He tried moving it again—no pain at all, just as before the injury! He stretched his left leg too—still no pain!

“My heavens…” Hu Daniu was so startled he began to panic. What was happening? How had he suddenly recovered? He pressed and pinched his legs everywhere—everything was as normal as a healthy person’s. The scars, the blood, even the shattered bones had all healed!

“Wife, try moving your legs!” Hu Daniu hopped off the bed and hurried to Li Xiaohua’s side.

Li Xiaohua cautiously moved her legs. She felt no discomfort, so she gradually increased her movements until both legs were fully extended—still, there was no pain!

The two stared at each other in terror.

What on earth was going on? How could they have recovered so inexplicably? Weren’t the doctors saying it would take months to heal? It had only been a day!

“Heavenly Dragon… bless us?” Li Xiaohua murmured, dazed.

“Maybe so?” Hu Daniu replied, just as confused.

That very morning, the couple checked out of the hospital. Since they were cured, why stay? No matter how the hospital tried to persuade them—even offering free observation—they were determined to go home.

“A miracle, truly a miracle! They recovered without any medication at all. Their healing ability is simply inhuman,” the chief physician sighed at the doorway.

“Director Li, I found something strange in the patient’s trash bin,” a nurse approached, holding a plastic bag.

“What is it?” Director Li asked, eyeing the bag.

“It’s the leftover millet porridge from this morning. Didn’t you ask me to check what the patients had for breakfast? I found this.”

Director Li took the bag, noticing a liquid of an unusual color mixed with the porridge. “Send this to the lab for analysis. Report the results to me.”

“Wife, do you think those doctors are out of their minds? They wanted us to stay for free observation! We’re already healed—what’s the point?” Hu Daniu grumbled as they boarded the bus home.

“They probably want to figure out why we recovered so quickly. Well, I’m not at their disposal—there’s plenty to do at home,” Li Xiaohua paused, worry creeping into her voice. “Daniu, do you think those local thugs will come after us again when they see us back?”

Hu Daniu’s expression darkened. He’d been so focused on his leg, he’d forgotten about them. His joy evaporated in an instant.

“Of course they will. Those people will risk anything for money. What I don’t get is, who leaked the news about us having money?”

“It’s my fault,” Li Xiaohua admitted, her face clouded with regret. “That day when you gave the ten gold coins as a bonus, I wanted to buy some good wine at the shop to celebrate. I didn’t have small change, so I paid with a gold coin. Someone walked in and saw it. It must have been her who spread the word.”

“Damn, that woman again. She’s the one whose family hurt you so badly, and now this… Her husband is connected to those thugs. Looks like peace is a thing of the past for us. Maybe… maybe we should move,” Hu Daniu mused. “Those thugs are organized now. Even the town police can’t handle them. Ordinary folks like us are no match. My income is plenty high—we could buy a house in the county. You’ve worked hard in the village half your life; why not enjoy yourself in the county?”

“Huh?” Li Xiaohua was dumbfounded. Move? She’d never considered such a thing.

“No, we can’t. I’d suffocate in the county, not knowing anyone. And what about the land, the pigs? We can’t just abandon everything,” she protested.

“It’s better than getting beaten to death, isn’t it? Do you want to go through that again?” Hu Daniu retorted angrily. “Don’t forget, Niuniu is about to start high school. How can he study in peace if we stay in the village?”

Li Xiaohua fell silent for a long time. Finally she said, “We can’t move for now. Let’s rent a place in the county and lay low for a while. I don’t believe those thugs will haunt us forever!”

As soon as the elevator doors opened, Chen Yun was seized by four police officers, his arms twisted behind his back and pressed to the ground.

He was utterly bewildered. What was happening? He hadn’t killed anyone or robbed a bank.

One officer swiftly produced a pair of handcuffs, clicking them shut around Chen Yun’s wrists before exhaling in relief. “All right, he’s not getting away this time.”

Chen Yun was at a loss. Run? Why would I run?

“The order came from city headquarters. If this guy gets away, the whole bureau will be in trouble. He’s quite the big shot,” one officer remarked.

Chen Yun’s confusion only deepened. City headquarters? How did this get so serious?

“I heard there’s a bounty out for him—ten thousand copper coins for whoever catches him first! The four of us can split the reward,” another said.

Now Chen Yun was truly lost. What had he done to warrant a bounty? Could someone explain?

The lead officer fixed Chen Yun with a cold stare. “You came here on an electric scooter, right?”

“Yes,” Chen Yun nodded.

“And you were riding pretty fast, weren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“You made it from the city to here in under half an hour?”

“Yes.”

“I heard not even sports cars could keep up with you?”

“Yes.”

“You know what a red light is, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“And you know what happens when you run a red light?”

“Yes.”

“All right, that’s enough. Take him away—let the city handle him. By the way, kid, where’s your vehicle?”

“…Yes.”

“‘Yes’ what? Getting addicted to saying ‘yes’? I’m asking you, where’s your electric scooter?”

“Uh… well…” Chen Yun hesitated. The scooter was stored in his mount space.

“What’s wrong?” the officer barked, eyes narrowing. “Not going to tell us?”

“No, it’s just—can I make a phone call?” Chen Yun thought quickly. He couldn’t let anyone learn about his secret system. He’d have to rely on his connections.

“Oh, trying to call in backup?” the officer sneered. “Headquarters already said, it’s no use who you call. Just hand over the scooter.”

“Let’s not be so absolute, officer. My connection will definitely work. Actually, never mind the call. There’s something in my right jacket pocket—take a look,” Chen Yun said, quietly moving his ID card and, more importantly, his gun permit bearing General Jiang Tian’s large official seal into his pocket. This would be more effective than any phone call.

The officer eyed him with suspicion, then reached into Chen Yun’s pocket and pulled out two documents.
