Chapter 76: I Want to Relieve Myself
Chen Yun picked up four books without hesitation. After a moment’s thought, he also took a pink skill manual titled “Above the Cultivator,” thinking that perhaps it would come in handy someday. He paid, and left.
This is what I’ll study, he decided. No matter when, one’s life is always the most important thing—especially after obtaining that all-purpose restoration agent from killing the elite lieutenant last time. That item was simply heaven-defying: instantly recovering 30% of health and mana, as good as having an extra life!
“Player Chen Yun’s second sub-class has changed to Apothecary—Apprentice level… Player Chen Yun has learned the skills of Potion Making and Emergency Diagnosis. Apprentice Apothecary has advanced to Junior Apothecary. For details, please check the Sub-class tab in your attributes menu.”
Hearing the system notification, Chen Yun opened his attributes menu, located the sub-class tab, and mentally commanded it to open.
In the Apothecary’s skill column, two skills had appeared.
Junior Potion Crafting: 1. Basic Health Potion: Instantly restores 150 HP. Crafting materials: 1 silver coin. Crafting method: mentally recite “Craft x units of Basic Health Potion.” 2. Basic Mana Potion: Instantly restores 150 MP. Crafting materials: 1 silver coin. Crafting method: mentally recite “Craft x units of Basic Mana Potion.”
Junior Diagnosis: Allows the diagnosis of illnesses (abnormal states) in NPCs up to level 50, with an accompanying treatment plan. Each use consumes 50 mana points.
“Not bad. Now I have potions for both health and mana. My safety is finally guaranteed. But why is there no all-purpose restoration agent? Is it because my level is too low? That must be it.” Shaking his head, Chen Yun dismissed the thought and mentally recited, “Craft one Basic Health Potion.”
Immediately, he saw that a silver coin vanished from his money pouch, and a Basic Health Potion appeared in his inventory.
Examining the potion, Chen Yun couldn’t help but laugh. Wasn’t this just the small red vial from those legendary games on Earth? So an apothecary here doesn’t actually make medicine—they make little health vials… The game designers really had an imagination. Then the Basic Mana Potion must be a little blue vial, right?
With that thought, Chen Yun crafted a Basic Mana Potion. Sure enough, it was a crystalline, translucent little blue vial!
He popped open the cap and drank the health potion. Instantly, his auxiliary health bar increased by 150 points. He then drank the mana potion, and his mana bar likewise increased by 150 points. Amazing!
Chen Yun crafted over a hundred of each potion and stored them in his inventory. After all, they only cost silver coins—and that was something he had in abundance!
“Now that my second sub-class is chosen, the next step is picking my main class, which is the most important of all. But… should I really choose a firearms class?” Chen Yun was torn.
Before he knew about the bizarre sects in this world—those like Azure Cloud Sect, Mount Shu, and World Society—he had been absolutely determined to choose a gunner class. Back on Earth, he’d played every major shooter: CS, CF, CrossFire, even the latest battle royales. Not one was left out. Even after learning that advanced cultivators here could live up to 500 years, his resolve hadn’t wavered.
Now, transported to this world and given the chance to handle real guns, it was a dream come true for a firearm enthusiast like him. Even though gun control was strict here, Chen Yun believed that, with his master chef skills that could produce grandmaster-level dishes, obtaining a special firearms permit wouldn’t be difficult. However…
If one day, life presented you with two choices—one being your beloved firearms, the other a chance, however elusive, for immortality and ascension—which would you choose?
Ninety-nine percent of people, he thought, would choose to become immortal. That choice transcends passion and temptation; it is the eternal pursuit since mankind’s very beginning.
“Damn it, this is too difficult. No, I have to find a book about these sects and see if they’re as mystical as in novels. If you really can cultivate to become immortal, then… then I’ll give up guns!” Turning on his heel, Chen Yun returned to the bookstore and soon found books about the world’s sects.
The four great sects had all risen suddenly a millennium ago. Their headquarters, rumored to have transcended this world, sent out disciples to establish the sect branches that now existed, each powerful enough to communicate directly with the empire. Even so, the lowest-ranked external disciples of the four sects were all Level 5 cultivators, and the highest reached Level 10 at their peak—just like the empire’s guardians, only a step away from breaking through to the realm of Celestial Cultivator.
Azure Cloud Sect and Mount Shu mainly cultivated spiritual consciousness, communing with the powers of heaven and earth for their own use.
World Society and the Moon Worship Sect focused on physical training, aiming for immense strength.
In essence, one path refined the internal, the other the external. These were the two essential roads of cultivation. Reaching the pinnacle of either would make one a Level 10 cultivator; excelling in both opened the possibility of ascending to Celestial Cultivator. It was said that all formal disciples of the four great sects who had transcended this world had reached the Celestial Cultivator realm, and the core disciples… their attainments were beyond imagination—not to mention the protectors, elders, and grandmasters among them.
That was the content of the book. However, what Chen Yun found most intriguing was the explanation of class and rank divisions:
Guide to Class Ranks:
Level 1–10: Commoner.
Above commoner is Cultivator. There are countless combat classes: sword, spear, blade, cannon, fist, palm, leg, whip—any combat profession, once its true essence is grasped, may become a cultivator.
Level 11–15: Level 1 Cultivator. (Each level corresponds to entry, early, mid, late, and peak stage.)
Level 16–20: Level 2 Cultivator.
...
Level 56–60: Level 10 Cultivator.
Level 61–65: Level 1 Celestial Cultivator. (Requires an advancement manual or completion of a corresponding class change quest to break through.)
“So that’s how it is.” After reading, Chen Yun finally understood. He’d never known how to become a cultivator, but now it was clear: a cultivator was simply a combat professional who had grasped the essence of their discipline. It didn’t matter whether it was melee or ranged.
Of course, this applied only to NPCs. For Chen Yun, who possessed the Grand Player System, seeking enlightenment was unnecessary. He only needed to do one thing: change class!
“So what am I hesitating for? All roads lead to Rome—I’m going to be a gunner! You all can ride your swords and blades; how tacky. When I’m powerful, I’ll ride a gun—flying and shooting at you all at the same time!”
That very day, Chen Yun contacted Uncle Jiang, requesting a firearms permit for his own safety—and not just any permit, but one with no model or restriction.
After a brief consideration, Jiang Shan agreed. Having gotten to know Chen Yun recently, he was sure the young man wasn’t bloodthirsty and wouldn’t abuse such power.
Still, this kind of permit was harder to obtain than any other document—he couldn’t manage it himself and had to ask his grandfather for help.
Upon hearing the request, General Jiang Tian waved his hand, and a permit bearing Chen Yun’s information, with no restrictions, was issued on the spot!
The empire’s political, military, and security departments registered it immediately—the process was lightning-fast.
After all, the permit bore General Jiang Tian’s official seal. Who would dare obstruct it? That would be courting death!
That very night, Jiang Shan personally delivered the firearms permit to Chen Yun, along with a silver revolver.
