Chapter 132: The Magician, Awesome
"Friend Qi is requesting a voice call. Do you accept?" Chen Yun, who was busy daydreaming, suddenly received a call request.
Qi? Chen Yun checked his watch—it was 7:00 PM. He couldn't help but feel suspicious. Why would Qi be calling at this hour?
"Accept."
"Chen Yun, there’s a magician performing at the Azure Hotel tonight! You have to come. I want to introduce you to a friend—she’s a total beauty!" Qi shouted the moment the call connected.
"Can I not go?"
"No!"
"But I don't want to go."
"Hmph, suit yourself. If you don't come, I'm coming to find you."
"...Alright, fine."
Chen Yun hadn't wanted to go; he was completely drained from being toyed with by the system. However, after Qi’s persistent urging, he eventually headed to the Azure Hotel.
"Sister Lele, this is Chen Yun, the one who saved my life. Chen Yun, this is my sworn sister, Wang Lele. She’s the police beauty at the city station!" Seeing Chen Yun arrive, Qi introduced them happily.
"Hello, I'm Chen Yun." Chen Yun reached out his hand toward the beautiful, long-haired police officer.
"Hello. Let's skip the handshake; I’m not used to shaking hands with men. Don’t overthink it—I’m not just like this with you; I’m like this with all men," Wang Lele said, waving her hand dismissively.
"..." Chen Yun’s eyelid twitched. This police officer really had a personality.
"Hee hee, I forgot about that! Chen Yun, Sister Lele is just like this, don’t take it the wrong way," Qi said with a giggle.
"I... I didn't think much of it," Chen Yun replied, shaking his head. "You said on the phone there was a magic show tonight. Where is it?"
"It should be starting soon. Let’s have something to eat while we wait. The snake soup here is excellent; you should try it." Qi scooped a spoonful of snake soup from her bowl and held it out to Chen Yun’s mouth.
Chen Yun didn't give it much thought and drank it. It tasted even better than the last time he’d had it; it seemed the chef here had improved again.
Wang Lele looked at Qi and then at Chen Yun with a strange expression. She opened her mouth and asked, "Are you two dating?"
"No way!" Qi’s face turned red.
"Absolutely not!" Chen Yun retorted, anxious.
"Heh, as if I’d believe that." Wang Lele shook her head and turned her gaze toward the stage. "The magician is here."
At the same time, Chen Yun heard the murmurs of the surrounding guests.
"Hey, I heard the famous domestic magician Niu Bi is performing tonight."
"Really? His appearance fee isn't cheap."
"That’s why I’m surprised. The hotel owner is really splashing out."
...
A moment later, a young man wearing a top hat, a tuxedo, and sunglasses walked onto the stage in the center of the cafe. He bowed elegantly to the audience and said with a smile, "Good evening, my friends. I’m sure you’re all familiar with me. I am the magician Niu Bi."
The guests below erupted in an uproar. Although they had heard rumors that Niu Bi might show up, many didn't believe it. They hadn't expected this master magician, ranked in the top three nationwide, to actually be here!
"Niu Bi, I love you!"
"Niu Bi, I’m your biggest fan!"
"Idol, please perform the upside-down walk! I never get tired of watching that!"
"Perform the conjuring act! That’s my favorite!"
"Quick, record this for my social media feed. I’m so excited!"
"Wow, it’s Master Niu Bi! I only heard a master was coming, but I never expected it to be him! Sister Lele, look! It’s really him!" Qi shouted in excitement.
"Strange, why is he here? A star of his caliber performing at a place like this?" Wang Lele wondered aloud.
Niu Bi? Chen Yun chuckled. That’s a hell of a name—"Awesome" indeed.
Looking at Niu Bi, who was wearing sunglasses and whose details—including his name—appeared as question marks, Chen Yun was stunned. It was the first time he had encountered a situation where he couldn't even see a name.
"Sister Lele, is this Master Niu Bi very famous? How come I don't know him?" Chen Yun rarely watched TV and had no interest in entertainment, so he wasn't familiar with famous celebrities. He had never even heard of this guy.
"What? You don't know the master magician Niu Bi? Are you even a local?" Qi exclaimed. "This Master Niu Bi is incredible, especially his conjuring magic. To this day, no one has figured out how he does it. Hmm... right, don't you know how to do magic too? Watch closely and see if you can figure it out."
"Chen Yun can do magic?" Wang Lele asked, chiming in.
"Yeah, let me tell you..." Qi recounted the previous incident. The more Wang Lele heard, the more confused she became. She interrupted Qi, "You're saying Chen Yun conjured a phone out of thin air? And the phone could not only fly but tracked people automatically? And it had navigation?"
"Exactly! A lot of people saw it. And there's more—later, Chen Yun used a toy to conjure a real car, this big! I was stunned," Qi said, growing more excited as she spoke.
Wang Lele was about to say something, but was interrupted by a burst of stirring music from the stage.
"I am honored to perform for you all today. But before I start, I want to ask you a question," Niu Bi said, looking at the audience. "Do you like money?"
"Of course! Who doesn't like money?"
"Only an idiot wouldn't like money!"
"Damn, is the master going to conjure money? That would be insane."
Listening to the commotion below, Niu Bi smiled slightly, rolled up the sleeves of his tuxedo, and said, "Money is a good thing; no one could dislike it. Today, the magic I will perform for you is related to money. Keep your eyes peeled!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he flicked his hand, and ten strings of copper coins appeared—each string worth 10,000!
The audience gasped. A moment ago, Niu Bi’s hands had been empty, and with his sleeves rolled up, most of his arms were fully exposed to the air. How did he conjure so many coins?
"Wow! Truly a master. He just conjures magic whenever he feels like it," Qi exclaimed, her mouth agape.
"Where did he pull that money from?" Wang Lele tried hard to recall the process, but she couldn't figure out the mystery behind it.
"As you can all see, I now have 100,000 in copper coins. In the past, this could buy many things, but with the development of society and the progress of the times, this doesn't buy much anymore. So, I need—more money!" Niu Bi waved his hand again, and this time, 90 more strings of copper coins appeared in his hands!
The entire room erupted in cheers!
There are many types of conjuring magic—conjuring clothes, animals, or even bicycles—but none carried the same impact as conjuring money. In just a short moment, one million in copper coins had appeared. The audience stood up one by one; if not for the security guards around the stage, they would have rushed up to get a closer look.
