Chapter 113: Entering the Instance
“Go ahead, say it first. Once you finish, I’ll know if it counts. Don’t make it too hard—I’m not familiar with computers.” Chen Yun said, noticing the system was unresponsive.
Hey, not familiar and yet you said you’d learned it? The training instructor thought to himself but smiled outwardly and said, “Alright, I’ll give you a question. It’s very simple—even a first grader can answer it. Tell me, what is the energy source for a computer?”
Chen Yun stared blankly at the instructor. This question wasn’t difficult—anyone from a kindergarten child upward would know!
“A computer, of course, uses electricity as its energy source,” Chen Yun couldn’t help but laugh.
“Player Chen Yun has activated all beginner-level computer skills and may now freely use computers.”
“The task is complete; here’s your payment.” Chen Yun handed over five gold coins to the instructor and turned to leave.
Watching Chen Yun walk away, the instructor was dumbfounded, staring at the fifteen gold coins in his hand. After a long moment, he muttered, “This money’s real... Damn, he really is an idiot!”
Back in his hotel room, Chen Yun successfully powered on the computer, downloaded, and installed Resident Evil, then launched the game.
“System notice: The game system has detected the Resident Evil game module. Warning: The player will enter the game module in a consciousness state. All items and equipment obtained within the module, excluding currency, can be brought back to the real world for use. Accessing Resident Evil requires player Chen Yun to be at level 15 and have a mental strength above 20. Conditions met. Consciousness entry permitted. Session duration: 2 hours. Cooldown: 1 week. Player Chen Yun, connect to the Resident Evil game module?”
After hearing the system prompt, Chen Yun’s eyes gleamed with excitement. Finally, his gear was within reach. What kind of world was Resident Evil? A post-apocalyptic world with highly advanced technology. Just the thought of experiencing the high-tech weapons seen only in movies, having them be real and even his own, made his heart race. He locked the hotel room door, took a deep breath, and said,
“I confirm connection to the Resident Evil module.”
“Player Chen Yun confirmed connection to the Resident Evil module. Connecting, please wait... Connection successful. Important notice: Player Chen Yun is completely independent within the Resident Evil world. The main quest is to assist protagonist Alice in saving Earth. Death in the Resident Evil world will consume 100,000 fame points for revival. Once fame points are depleted, the player will lose access to the Resident Evil world. The storyline will evolve based on player Chen Yun’s actions. The time ratio between the real world and Resident Evil world is 1:2. Enjoy your game. Exit countdown: 1 hour, 59 minutes, 59 seconds...”
Drowsily, Chen Yun’s main consciousness entered the Resident Evil world.
Before him stretched a street bustling with people.
Chen Yun steadied himself and immediately realized this must be Raccoon City before the zombie outbreak, as depicted in Resident Evil 1.
Finding a spot to sit, Chen Yun began to ponder the useful information provided by the system prompt.
From the system, Ye Ming deduced several crucial points:
1. Chen Yun exists independently in this world and does not assume any character role.
2. The mission here is clear: assist Alice in saving Earth by defeating the antagonist Wesker.
3. Death consumes fame points to revive; if fame runs out, access to the Resident Evil world is lost.
4. The storyline isn’t fixed; it will change based on Chen Yun’s involvement and how he helps Alice.
5. Given the time ratio, Chen Yun can remain active here for two hours. When time expires, regardless of the situation, he will disappear. He must use his time wisely and avoid vanishing during battles, as returning under such conditions would be risky.
After summarizing, Chen Yun stood and decided to ask a passerby about the location of Umbrella Corporation.
From all indications, Raccoon City was still relatively safe—at least not yet overrun by zombies.
However, Chen Yun guessed the plot was already unfolding, and there was no escaping it. For safety, he silently murmured, “Switch to combat profession.”
“Player has not triggered the combat profession activation quest for this module and cannot switch to Gun God combat profession.”
Damn! Chen Yun was stunned. What did the activation quest for the combat profession mean? Did he have another combat profession in this world?
“System, explain what this means right now!” Chen Yun hurriedly demanded.
...
No response.
“Don’t pretend to be mute. My combat power isn’t even at five; do you want me to die like this?”
...
Still no reply.
“...Damn it!” Chen Yun broke down.
His heart sank. His greatest reliance was the Gun God profession. Without its protection, how could he confront the advanced technology and those powerful bosses in this world? Was he supposed to fight hand-to-hand?
If the Gun God profession was unusable, what about the secondary profession, Pharmacist?
Thinking this, Chen Yun quickly checked. Fortunately, the Pharmacist profession was highlighted and available.
With a thought, a piece of beef appeared in Chen Yun’s hand, and his inventory was accessible.
Well, the system had some mercy. If even these two were unavailable, Chen Yun might as well give up.
Though this was the M country within Resident Evil, it was still his first time here, and he was curious—it was like a disguised form of traveling abroad!
“Hello, where is the distribution of Umbrella Corporation here?” Chen Yun stopped a passerby and asked in English.
“Over there...” The passerby enthusiastically pointed the way.
Following the directions, Chen Yun soon found his destination.
Outside Umbrella Corporation’s stronghold in Raccoon City, the place was deserted. The autumn setting in the game added a layer of withered leaves scattered across the ground, creating a desolate atmosphere.
Chen Yun stared intently at the building labeled ‘Level 15 Mission Module Hive’ and pondered how to get inside.
Since the system required him to assist Alice in saving Earth, he had to find the assault squad assigned here, act with them, protect Alice, and follow the plot. However, Chen Yun guessed he might only be a burden to Alice at this moment.
“No matter. I’ll find Alice first. I remember there’s a nearby building where Alice should be, and beneath it is a train leading to the Hive. The assault squad takes the train to get there,” Chen Yun recalled scenes from the movie and resolved, “I’ll find that building first.”
“Mini-map, search for quest NPC Alice,” Chen Yun said, looking at the yellow dot representing Alice on the mini-map, and headed in that direction.
Guided by the mini-map, Chen Yun quickly found the building, but unfortunately, the Red Queen had sealed all entrances. To get in, he would have to resort to force.
Looking at the reinforced gate’s 20,000/20,000 durability, Chen Yun felt dizzy. With his current attack power, how long would it take to break through? Clearly, entering through the gate was out of the question.
Chen Yun turned his attention to the closed windows.
“500/500 durability. This is doable,” he said, pulling out his phone and walking up to a window, then began smashing it with the phone.
