Chapter 106: The Rise of the Human Race's War
“Your Majesty, a force approaches from afar!”
At the Youxiong Tribe, a burly man clad in armor entered the palace where Xuanyuan resided. Bowing slightly, he reported the news.
“Can you make out their banners?” Xuanyuan furrowed his brow slightly.
“It seems to be the banner of the Human Sovereign, Shennong...” the armored man pondered.
“Human Sovereign?”
Xuanyuan’s brow tightened. He held some respect for Shennong and preferred not to make an enemy of him unless absolutely necessary.
“Your Majesty.” At that moment, a man in plain robes stepped forward—it was Xuanyuan’s trusted general, Dahong.
“I heard that not long ago, the Human Sovereign led a great army to subdue the Jiuli Tribe. Since the Jiuli Tribe still stands, it’s unlikely that the Human Sovereign would be hostile toward us at this time.”
Xuanyuan’s frown deepened briefly before he nodded in agreement, evidently concurring with Dahong’s reasoning.
“Send word, I will go out to greet the Human Sovereign!”
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
...
Following Xuanyuan, the group arrived outside the Youxiong Tribe, where from afar, they saw a long procession approaching.
“The Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan greets the Human Sovereign!”
From a distance, Xuanyuan bowed to Shennong, and the many officials behind him followed suit with slight bows.
“No need for such formalities, Yellow Emperor.”
Shennong stepped down from his carriage barefoot, smiling gently as he returned Xuanyuan’s gesture.
“We pay respects to the Yellow Emperor.”
Many of the human officials also bowed respectfully to Xuanyuan. After all, Xuanyuan was now the leader of nearly a third of the human tribes, a position second only to the Human Sovereign himself.
...
“Please, no need for formalities. It must have been a tiring journey. Come, let us enter and rest.”
Xuanyuan laughed heartily and invited Shennong and his entourage into the Youxiong Tribe.
Soon, under Xuanyuan’s orders, a grand banquet was prepared. Xuanyuan and Shennong sat together at the main table, drinking and celebrating with everyone.
During the feast, Shennong quietly observed Xuanyuan’s character. Seeing him cheerful and optimistic, treating his subordinates without arrogance, and yet commanding their loyalty, Shennong nodded with satisfaction, thinking this man was born with the aura of a leader—perhaps even surpassing himself.
Then, Shennong inquired about military deployments and strategies, and the conclusions only deepened his admiration.
After the banquet, Shennong publicly declared that all military command of the human tribes would be entrusted to Xuanyuan. Until the Jiuli Tribe was defeated, even Shennong himself would be subject to Xuanyuan’s authority.
Xuanyuan was taken aback at first and tried to decline, but Shennong was resolute. Seeing this as a way to swiftly bring peace to all human tribes, Xuanyuan nodded in agreement.
Seeing this, Shennong relaxed and nodded with satisfaction.
...
Thus, Xuanyuan became the undisputed foremost leader of the human race. Though not the Human Sovereign, even the Sovereign had to heed his commands.
...
News of this reached Chiyou’s ears, naturally making him feel threatened. After conferring with many great shamans, they prepared to unleash a formation from the shamanic heritage, second only to the Twelve Capital Heavenly Demonic Array—the Ninety-Nine Heavens Divine Fiend Formation.
However, this formation required boundless bloodshed and malevolent energy to activate. After much discussion, they decided to hold a blood sacrifice to gather sufficient fiendish energy.
To this end, Chiyou selected 100,000 shamans with the purest bloodlines from the many tribes under the Jiuli Tribe’s rule. They slaughtered them brutally, piling up their flesh and bones to condense endless vicious energy. Using secret shamanic techniques, they crafted eighty-one battle flags.
Determined to seize the title of Human Sovereign, they spared no effort. After testing the formation’s power, they nodded in satisfaction.
At Chiyou’s command, the entire Jiuli Tribe marched grandly toward the Youxiong Tribe.
At the same time, Xuanyuan consolidated the forces loyal to the Human Sovereign, greatly enhancing his strength. Upon hearing of Chiyou’s invasion, he was unperturbed and instead sharpened his blades, leading his forces to confront them.
At this time, the humans were still simple and honest, without intrigue or deceit. After choosing a battlefield, the two sides clashed directly—soldiers against soldiers, generals against generals.
Chiyou, accompanied by eighty-one great shamans, chose an open field and summoned the Ninety-Nine Heavens Divine Fiend Formation.
Xuanyuan felt the boundless malevolence within the formation; his expression darkened. Yet, thinking of his current power, he grew more confident. With a shout, he led many human warriors of the Great Dao Golden Immortal rank and above to counterattack.
...
The battle raged fiercely, turning sky to darkness and rivers to blood. The eighty-one great shamans, empowered by the formation, coordinated flawlessly, striking fear into the hearts of the human warriors.
Seeing his strongest comrades fall one after another while Chiyou’s forces remained unscathed, Xuanyuan grew anxious. If this continued, even if they defeated Chiyou in the end, their strength would be nearly depleted.
Determined to capture the leader first, Xuanyuan drew the Xuanyuan Sword and, leading several peak Great Dao Golden Immortals, launched a strike toward Chiyou’s position.
“Well-timed!”
Chiyou, reveling in the slaughter of human warriors, brightened upon seeing Xuanyuan’s arrival. After all, killing ten thousand human warriors was not as satisfying as killing Xuanyuan himself.
Confident in his own strength, Chiyou did not hesitate and charged forward wielding his demon blade to meet Xuanyuan.
Xuanyuan showed no fear. With a shout, the Xuanyuan Sword burst forth with brilliant golden light, clashing against Chiyou’s demon blade.
With a thunderous clash, Chiyou’s hand holding the blade trembled slightly.
Had this been the Xuanyuan of ancient history, he might have died under Chiyou’s blade. But now, as the son of a sage with formidable talent and solid footing, personally trained by Tongtian and bearing secret teachings of the Jie Sect, wielding the Xuanyuan Sword—a celestial treasure rivaling top-tier innate spiritual weapons—he matched Chiyou blow for blow without faltering.
“Kill!”
The human warriors who accompanied Xuanyuan, seeing his divine might, blood boiling, shouted and charged forward.
Chiyou’s expression darkened, and though he considered retreat, his pride forbade him from yielding to those he always despised. With a roar, he swung his demon blade fiercely at several human warriors.
Xuanyuan would not stand idle. With a sharp shout, he followed, thrusting the Xuanyuan Sword toward Chiyou.
In the furious clash, Xuanyuan seized an opening and struck fiercely at Chiyou’s shoulder. Chiyou reacted swiftly but was a moment too slow. He saw a blur before him as half of his arm was severed, blood spraying in droplets!
“Ah!!!”
“My arm!!!”
The searing pain forced Chiyou to howl toward the heavens. He had never imagined that he would lose half an arm to the very humans he had long scorned.
