Chapter 27: Immortal
At first, Ye Shu would use tools to gather these resources, keeping his body as far from the black miasma as possible. But after one or two times gathering without protection, and noticing no abnormalities in his body, he gradually began to use his bare hands. It was convenient and much faster, so he did it more and more often.
His younger siblings and the villagers tried persuading him not to touch those poisonous things, but he ignored them all.
What could he do? He had already sensed something was wrong with himself. Stopping now wouldn’t restore him; only opening his meridians offered a glimmer of hope.
Yet he still didn’t have enough gold to open his meridians, so he had to save up as quickly as possible.
Night fell; the poison had seeped into his soul. More of the toxic gas made Ye Shu’s head feel as if it would split, and his body was undergoing strange changes.
In his dazed state, his mind wandered back to the days just after his parents passed away. Back then, he had only one goal: to keep his siblings and himself from starving. When had everything changed? When had it all become like this?
Now, no matter how much he regretted, no matter how he wished to return to the past, there was no way back.
Just as he thought he would soon become a soul corpse, a white figure stopped at his side, and a cool, refreshing pill was placed into his mouth.
The moment the pill entered, it coursed through his body, and all abnormal symptoms vanished as if they had never existed.
Raising his head, Ye Shu saw only a white figure flying off into the distance.
An immortal!
He knelt down, trembling, and kowtowed in gratitude. “Thank you, immortal, for saving my life.”
Walking along the village road, Yun Qing saw a villager kneeling at his doorway, murmuring, “Thank you, immortal, for saving my life.”
That location! Yun Qing’s eyes narrowed. Wasn’t this the place she had visited in the copy?
And the kneeling posture and direction—she’d seen them four times already.
Could it be? Was she the immortal?
“Liu Liu! Could it be that the copy I just played actually happened in Ye Family Village?”
“The copy world is generated as a parallel world based on your location. When you open a copy, you’ve entered a parallel world. Once you finish the copy and upload it, the events from the copy world are transmitted to your own world.”
Yun Qing felt a little pleased, confirming, “So the immortal they’re talking about is me?”
“Seems so.”
“In the future, for problems that are hard to solve, can I resolve them in the copy world?”
“As long as you have a copy scroll. The trial version only appears during your first lottery draw.”
Yun Qing understood. If she ever got another scroll, she would have to rely on her real strength to clear the copy, not on a heap of treasures given to her at the start, letting a newbie like herself defeat a powerful Golden Core boss and drive away the darkness.
This disaster at Ye Family Village was solved by her; the praise and gratitude were all hers.
Yun Qing was excited. There were dozens of martial artists in Ye Family Village—her favorability gain this time would surely be off the charts.
Why wasn’t there a system notification for favorability? Could it be that there was so much, the system automatically muted the sound?
Listening to the villagers’ heartfelt praise and thanks, Yun Qing opened the favorability system.
Only one new entry:
“Ye Mingyu, favorability 3, acquaintance.”
From this, Yun Qing deduced that Ye Mingyu must have recovered. Could it be that her pill had gone to Ye Mingyu? That was quite good.
However, for a life-saving grace, only 3 favorability points from Ye Mingyu? Wasn’t that a bit stingy?
She checked the others: Ye Xiaolang, Ye Qiaoqiao, Ye Mao, Ye Hai, Ye Tao, and Ye Wenjing. Their favorability remained unchanged, and there were no other new entries.
“Liu Liu, didn’t you say I saved Ye Family Village? Why is there no favorability?”
“The other party needs to know it was you who did it for there to be favorability.”
In Ye Family Village, she dared not tell anyone she was the one who saved the village. Even if she did, no one would believe her.
Yun Qing shrugged. “Liu Liu, this is such a trap! In the future, I must make sure to leave my name after doing good deeds.”
Liu Liu replied, “Things are rarely just one-sided. If you leave your name, you might also gain some hate value.”
“We’ll see about that.” She could never bring herself to bully children, and gaining more enemies by leaving her name was something she’d have to consider carefully.
In the village, everyone’s faces were full of joy at surviving the disaster. At first, only the dozen or so who’d been treated knelt and thanked the immortal. Gradually, more ordinary villagers joined them in kneeling and expressing gratitude.
Watching the villagers kneeling in thanks, Yun Qing felt a bit embarrassed.
She muttered inwardly, You don’t have to be so polite—I'm just grinding copies to level up. Though I didn’t level up, the skills and energy gained are still good. If your gratitude could be exchanged for silver—three or five taels each would do.
In her mind, Yun Qing said, “Liu Liu, the villagers’ gratitude is too enthusiastic. All this kneeling makes me uncomfortable—I don’t even dare to help them up.”
Liu Liu replied, “Try helping one up.”
“I think I’ll pass. I’d rather go to the clinic and check on Ye Mingyu’s condition.”
Just then, an excited shout rose from the crowd:
“To the plaza to see the immortal!”
“To the plaza to see the immortal!”
See the immortal?
Judging by Liu Liu’s words, the one who just saved Ye Family Village was her—so wasn’t she the immortal?
The crowd rushed towards the plaza, everyone full of excitement.
Upon hearing that they could see the immortal who had saved them again, Ye Shu, who had been kneeling in sincere worship, stood up in excitement and joined the crowd. He wanted to see his benefactor once more.
Yun Qing frowned slightly. Someone was impersonating ‘her the immortal’—and so quickly?
“Liu Liu, let’s go see who’s pretending to be the immortal.”
Liu Liu replied, “Even if you see them, what can you do? Anyone who can impersonate an immortal must have some skills.”
Clutching her chest, Yun Qing said, “That really stings, Liu Liu. If I said I was the immortal myself, I’d look like the imposter. Even if I see them, I can only join the crowd in shouting thanks to the immortal.”
Despite her words, Yun Qing still followed the crowd to the plaza. She was determined to see the true face of the so-called immortal.
At the entrance to the plaza, members of the guard team stood watch, preventing any villagers who might have turned into soul corpses from entering.
What the villagers didn’t know was that many in the guard team were taking this opportunity to search every corner of the village, checking how many villagers remained poisoned and whether any soul corpses still existed.
The plaza was packed. By the time Yun Qing arrived, most of the villagers were already there.
She saw only ordinary villagers—no sign of the immortal.
She squeezed over to Master Li at the blacksmith shop and asked, “Master Li, do you know where the immortal is?”
Master Li’s eyes were full of anticipation. “The immortal will come out soon. The village chief went to invite them.”
“Oh! That’s really something to look forward to.” Yun Qing rolled her eyes inwardly and replied casually.
The villagers had rushed to the plaza, and many names hung above their heads—people she recognized, including Ye Xiaolang, Ye Mao, and the two merchants from the caravan. Ye Mingyu was nowhere to be seen. Thanks to Ye Wenjing, Yun Qing’s hunting team had been brought to the very front.
