Chapter 48: Who Needs Logic When You're the Protagonist of a Power Fantasy?
The man with the chicken-nest hair grew dark-faced upon hearing the security guard’s words.
“Are you insulting me?”
“No, sir, why would I insult you?” The security guard replied with innocent patience. “Everyone attending the banquet must present an invitation—that’s the rule.”
“I’m just an employee. Please don’t make things difficult for me, alright?” The guard, fearing he might offend him, spoke with utmost gentleness.
Yet the chicken-nest haired man refused to let it go. “You look down on people, don’t you? You really are insulting me!”
“Sir, this is ridiculous!” The security guard was almost in tears.
Pointing to the others, the man demanded, “They can go in. Why can’t I? Are you saying you’re not insulting me?”
“Invitation! You need an invitation to enter!” The guard, growing anxious, gestured with both hands. “Do you not understand the language? Should I speak English?”
Bang!
Without warning, the chicken-nest haired man punched the guard squarely in the face.
The guard was sent flying, landing right in front of Chu Fei and Zhou Mi.
Before the guard could get up, the man stepped forward and planted his foot on the guard’s chest, his mouth twisted in a crooked smile.
“I come with a blade. Why would I need an invitation?”
The line was so awkward it could make one curl their toes in embarrassment.
Zhou Mi cast the man a look of disdain before turning to Chu Fei.
“Is this man mentally challenged? The security guard hasn’t done anything wrong. What right does he have to hit him?”
Chu Fei replied briefly, then pulled Zhou Mi toward the venue. He very much wanted to teach the man a lesson, but had no desire to meddle further.
But as soon as the chicken-nest haired man saw the beautiful Zhou Mi, he immediately transformed into a sycophant, chasing after her.
“Hey gorgeous, you kept glancing at me just now. Do you think I’m handsome? Want to add me on social media? I’ll give you a chance to get to know me!”
He thought himself witty, but only succeeded in making Zhou Mi feel disgusted.
She turned to Chu Fei. “Little junior, you’re just going to stand by and watch your fourth senior sister get harassed?”
“Sigh, honestly, you really are…” Chu Fei gestured at the chicken-nest haired man, helpless. “I was just wondering what excuse I could find to beat you up, but you’ve delivered yourself right to me.”
“Isn’t this pathetic?” The man was stunned for a moment, then offered a crooked smile—three parts mocking, three parts indifferent, four parts casual.
“You want to hit me? You’re looking for trouble, you know. Miss, is this man bothering you? I can beat him up for you!”
Zhou Mi replied, exasperated, “You’re the one harassing me.”
“You must be threatened by him. I could see it, that’s why I approached you!” The man said earnestly, “Don’t be afraid, beautiful. I, Lin Feng, am here. I’ll protect you!”
Zhou Mi: “???”
What do I need your protection for?
“Does this man have no logic?” Zhou Mi asked Chu Fei.
Chu Fei shrugged. “He just said his name is Lin Feng. A protagonist in an over-the-top web novel doesn’t need logic!”
Those nearby who heard the name Lin Feng began to murmur.
“Lin Feng? Isn’t he the outcast disowned by the Lin family?”
“Old Master Lin already drove him out of Dragon City. How is he here?”
“This charity banquet tonight is hosted by the Lin family. He must be here to cause trouble!”
Well, this really was a classic background template.
Chu Fei had thought the man was just engaging in some kind of performance art.
As for Lin Feng, though he didn’t quite understand what Chu Fei was saying, he was certain he was being insulted.
Everyone who insulted him must pay. What belonged to him, he would reclaim!
Just then, the host of the banquet, Lin Tianhao, arrived with a contingent of security guards.
Upon seeing Lin Feng, he erupted in fury. “You ungrateful brat, what are you planning?”
“Old man, I’ve waited for you a long time!” Lin Feng glared at Lin Tianhao. “Years ago you drove me out of the Lin family like a dog. Fortunately, I met my master, who taught me everything I know!”
“I am not who I once was. I will reclaim all that was mine!”
With that, Lin Feng charged at Lin Tianhao.
Lin Tianhao quickly ordered the guards to apprehend Lin Feng.
But over a dozen guards couldn’t even get close; in moments, all were knocked to the ground.
After finishing with the guards, Lin Feng didn’t rush to attack Lin Tianhao. Instead, he stepped atop one of the fallen guards and turned to Chu Fei, putting on airs.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to hit me? Why don’t you dare now? Are you scared?”
Lin Feng thought he must look incredibly cool right now. If he could knock Chu Fei down, the peerless beauty beside him would surely fall for him. Women always admire the strong!
Lin Tianhao now noticed Zhou Mi and Chu Fei.
Zhou Mi was the spokesperson for their company’s products—this was why he had invited her to the charity banquet.
Seeing Zhou Mi unwittingly caught up in the farce, he hurried forward.
“Miss Zhou, please take this gentleman into the venue. I’ll handle things here!”
“Uncle Lin, how do you plan to handle it?” Zhou Mi, respectful toward her benefactor, inquired.
Lin Tianhao was upright, never abusing his power, nor taking advantage of female celebrities. Generous, he had offered Zhou Mi many opportunities—hence her willingness to support him.
Faced with Zhou Mi’s question, Lin Tianhao’s expression darkened as he drew a hand across his throat.
“If he’s so ruthless, then I won’t be polite. I plan to… call the police!”
“Call… the police?” Zhou Mi thought she must have misheard.
He was a dominant figure, after all. Calling the police to arrest his own son—wasn’t this a bit unsporting?
“Yes, causing trouble—he’s already broken the law!”
Chu Fei agreed, “Such malicious behavior must be properly punished!”
“It’s a society ruled by law now!”
If Song Yalan were present, she would surely quip:
—You certainly didn’t say that when you were killing and burying people, you hypocrite!
Lin Tianhao gave Chu Fei a look of mutual understanding.
Then he truly picked up his phone to dial the police.
Lin Feng, of course, couldn’t let Lin Tianhao call the police. He dashed forward and threw a punch at him.
Chu Fei didn’t much care whether Lin Tianhao lived or died, but worried his fourth senior sister might be harmed.
So he intercepted the punch, sending Lin Feng flying.
Lin Feng staggered back several steps, steadied himself, and fixed Chu Fei with a murderous glare.
“You dare block me? Then I’ll take you down first, trample you underfoot!”
“Insulting people—that’s where you’re wrong,” Chu Fei replied, stepping forward politely. “Since you refuse to be a gentleman, let’s discuss matters with our fists.”
Lin Tianhao grabbed Chu Fei, urging, “Young man, don’t be reckless. When in trouble, call the police. You’re no match for him!”
“Don’t worry. I’d say we’re at a nine-to-one split.”
“Nine-to-one? Who’s the nine?”
“I am, he’s the one.”
“What? Then why rush in and get yourself killed?”
Faced with Lin Tianhao’s doubts, Chu Fei’s lips curled in a hint of contempt.
He left behind a back view that would enchant Zhou Mi, along with a light remark:
“One punch from me, nine springs for him.”
