Chapter 42: Then I'll Say a Few Words
Wasn’t everyone saying that Shen Miaoyu was kicked out of the Shen family for the sake of some penniless nobody? How did that poor kid suddenly become the chairman of the Chu Group overnight?
Zhu Qing would rather die than believe it.
Yet the truth was right before her eyes.
Director Wang from HR was shrewd and immediately saw that Zhu Qing had offended Chu Fei. Without hesitation, he called for security.
“You lot, throw this idiot out. She’s barred from setting foot in the group ever again!”
A few security guards stepped forward to escort Zhu Qing out.
“I can’t lose this job! Director Wang, please, give me another chance!”
Zhu Qing shoved the guards away and knelt before Director Wang.
If she was thrown out of the group, with Director Wang’s methods, she’d be blacklisted everywhere. Where else could she possibly find work?
“You’re hopelessly stupid!”
Director Wang kicked Zhu Qing and snapped, “You can’t even kneel to the right person!”
That kick finally cleared Zhu Qing’s head.
She turned to Chu Fei, begging, “Chairman, it was my loose tongue, I’m begging you, please let me off just this once!”
Chu Fei didn’t even glance at her and walked straight toward the conference room.
Zhu Qing dashed after him, pleading, “Chairman, as long as you let me off, I’ll do anything. I’ll be obedient—whatever you ask, I’ll do it. I’ll serve you better than anyone.”
Her meaning was so obvious, she might as well have written “Come have me now” across her face.
Now Chu Fei was amused. “Anything, you say?”
Zhu Qing, thinking her seduction was working, nodded eagerly, “Of course, I’m way better than the one you have by your side!”
Unjustly brought into the conversation, Shen Miaoyu shot Chu Fei a warning glance.
Secretary Jin, watching from the side, mused to herself—oh dear, is the Queen getting jealous?
Chu Fei ignored Shen Miaoyu’s look and instead sized Zhu Qing up again, head to toe.
Zhu Qing began flaunting herself, confident in both her looks and her figure.
But then Chu Fei simply said, “Then go clean the toilets.”
“What?”
Before Zhu Qing could react, security had already dragged her away.
Director Wang ordered the guards to supervise her cleaning the toilets every day from now on, and if she dared to skip, the company would sue her for breach of contract!
After Zhu Qing was hauled off, Director Wang hurried to apologize to Chu Fei, nearly dropping to his knees in desperation.
Chu Fei couldn’t be bothered with him; he just said to the crowd, “Weren’t we supposed to be having a meeting? What are you all standing around for?”
“What about Director Wang?” Secretary Jin asked.
With a cold face, Chu Fei replied, “He can get lost too.”
This fellow would serve as the perfect warning—just the thing to let these so-called upper managers know that the chairman was not someone to be trifled with.
Director Wang panicked, immediately begging Chu Fei, “Chairman, please give me a chance. I’ll do anything, I’ll be obedient—whatever you say, I’ll do it. I’ll serve you well!”
Wasn’t this exactly what Zhu Qing just said?
Good lord, the moment those words came out, Chu Ge nearly choked on the spot.
Chu Fei looked at him with disdain, “Why the hell would I need you to serve me? Are you out of your mind?”
“Oh… that’s not what I meant. I just want to stay in the Chu Group and do my part for you!” Director Wang pleaded.
Chu Fei glanced carelessly at Shen Miaoyu.
He’d made his point—now it was time for a touch of mercy, and to let Shen Miaoyu take credit. That would make her job easier in the group and free himself from unnecessary trouble.
Shen Miaoyu caught on instantly. “Chairman, I think this isn’t really Director Wang’s fault. There’s always that one bad apple to spoil the bunch.”
“I don’t want what you think—I want what I think!” Chu Fei, seeing she was playing along, continued the act.
“Chairman, Director Wang has recruited so much talent for our group. I hope you can be lenient with him!”
“Fine, for your sake, I’ll let him off this once.”
Chu Fei seized the chance to de-escalate. Director Wang thanked him profusely.
“If you want to thank someone, thank President Shen,” Chu Fei said, finishing his performance before entering the conference room.
Director Wang turned to Shen Miaoyu, full of gratitude. “Thank you, President Shen. If not for you, I’d be in deep trouble!”
“We’re colleagues, no need for such formality,” Shen Miaoyu replied, leading the executives to their seats.
Chu Fei had no interest in these meetings, but since he was here, he might as well play his part. He could show his support for Shen Miaoyu and clear away some obstacles, so he wouldn't have to deal with petty issues himself in the future.
Most of the executives present were leftovers from the Ouyang Group and people sent by the Meng family. Some feared Chu Fei, but many looked down on such a young upstart.
However, after witnessing the business with Director Wang, they all realized Chu Fei wasn’t someone to mess with. No one dared act too arrogant now!
During the report on the Wanli City project, Chu Fei started yawning. By the end, he had no idea what they had been droning on about.
No matter. As long as Shen Miaoyu understood, that was enough. He had faith in her abilities.
Just as Chu Fei was daydreaming about sneaking off early to grope her, Secretary Jin suddenly brightened and said, “Chairman, now that we’ve finished the reports, shouldn’t you say a few words?”
“Me?” Chu Fei paused, pointing at himself. “Are you sure?”
How dare you! Shen Miaoyu stared at Secretary Jin in shock. She knew all too well that nothing good would come next.
But Secretary Jin, oblivious to the danger, egged him on. “Of course! Don’t be shy—say something inspiring. Everyone’s waiting.”
Since you insist I not be shy, don’t blame me for what comes next.
Chu Fei’s lips curled into a smirk. He stood and said, “Well, I’ll say a few words. Which few words, you ask? I’ve already said them, so that’s it for today. If you understood, give me some applause.”
Secretary Jin: …
Everyone: …
Shen Miaoyu covered her face, exasperated. She had known this guy would be up to no good!
Only Director Wang was excited, exclaiming, “Bravo, Chairman! That was wonderful. My admiration for you is as boundless as the flowing Yangtze…”
“Enough!” Chu Fei rolled his eyes, then suddenly his expression turned serious.
He scanned the room, picked up a pen from the table, and snapped it in two.
Then he had Secretary Jin collect everyone’s pens and hand them to him.
No one knew what he was up to, but at that moment, his presence was overwhelming.
Chu Fei looked around and asked, “Do you know what I meant by breaking that pen?”
“I know! The pen is like a chopstick—one breaks easily, but a bundle is strong. Chairman, you’re teaching us the power of unity!” Director Wang replied earnestly, eager to show off.
Crack! Chu Fei instantly broke all the pens at once.
“No. It means even all of you together can’t take me on.”
Everyone: …
After the meeting ended, the executives left, shaken, discussing the intimidating aura of their young chairman.
In the conference room, only Chu Fei and Shen Miaoyu remained.
Seeing Chu Fei eyeing her with a mischievous look, Shen Miaoyu immediately tried to find an excuse to slip away.
But just as she stood up, Chu Fei grabbed her, pinning her against the conference table. “You promised to let me touch, remember? Don’t think you can go back on your word.”
