Chapter Thirty-Nine: One Sentence Shocks the Entire Audience
Yuan Xiong asked several times before finally confirming what Wang Mo had said.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Why?”
“Because only the truth can shatter all rumors.”
As Wang Mo spoke, his tone exuded an overwhelming confidence, so much so that even Yuan Xiong felt a little dazed. He stared into Wang Mo’s eyes for a long moment before finally saying, “Since you insist, go ahead. However, the script won’t be withdrawn just yet. If you can’t handle the livestream, you’ll have to stick to the script. Otherwise, your whole livestream will be for nothing.”
Wang Mo nodded and returned to the livestream.
His brief absence had emboldened the viewers, who presumed he’d left out of fear. Even those who hadn’t initially suspected “West Tower” of any deceit were now swept up in the tide of disparaging comments.
“Shameless host, you’ve fooled me.”
“You actually dare to come back?”
“So you claim to be talented? Prove it to us, then!”
“I really thought the host was talented, turns out I was just an idiot.”
“After reading everyone’s comments, I get it now. It’s all the result of a team pulling the strings behind the scenes. Where would Douyin even find a talented host?”
“Oh, so we’re not being silenced anymore?”
Since Wang Mo had just instructed the staff not to block any comments, the barrage of messages increased dramatically, many of them vile beyond description.
Wang Mo composed himself, adjusted the microphone, and spoke into the camera in a calm, steady voice: “I’ve seen your comments. You want me to connect with that other host and let him expose my so-called hypocrisy? Very well. As you wish. Have that host connect with me now. I’ll be waiting.”
His words brought a hush to the comment section.
No one expected Wang Mo would actually agree to a live connection!
“He actually dares?”
“No way!”
Elsewhere, the internet celebrity host “Silver Moon” was speaking confidently in his own livestream, analyzing why “West Tower” was a fraud: “First, his voice is almost identical to Wang Mo’s, which reeks of someone trying to ride the hype. Second, a truly talented person wouldn’t hide his face. Third, every time West Tower answers a question, it’s mechanical—obviously reading from a script… Taking all these factors into account, West Tower is a capital-driven fraud, exploiting Wang Mo’s voice to manipulate your feelings. Don’t let yourselves be fooled…”
Just as he was getting worked up, the comment section exploded.
Silver Moon glanced at the messages, arching an eyebrow: “West Tower is waiting for me to go live with him? Where does he get the nerve? Fine! Let’s see what he’s made of!”
Two minutes later.
In the West Tower’s livestream room.
Wang Mo saw Silver Moon’s invitation to connect.
He didn’t hesitate and clicked “accept.”
The next second, the two appeared together in a unified livestream.
Wang Mo smiled gently, “Hello.”
Silver Moon was visibly taken aback when he saw “West Tower.” “You really dare go live with me?”
Wang Mo replied, “Why wouldn’t I?”
Silver Moon pressed, “Then why didn’t you connect with me before?”
Wang Mo answered, “I do livestreams simply to share my knowledge with viewers, not to cater to the doubts of those who question me. Otherwise, wouldn’t I be reduced to mediocrity? Honestly, had I not been concerned that the viewers in my comment section were being swayed, I wouldn’t have bothered to respond at all.”
Silver Moon frowned, “So you’re just going to sit back and let the viewers insult you? Slander you?”
Wang Mo smiled, “And what of it if they do? And what of it if they don’t?”
Silver Moon pressed, “You can tolerate that?”
In his view, this so-called “West Tower” was simply putting on an act, not to be trusted at all. As he was pondering how to tear off this person’s mask—
Wang Mo spoke calmly:
“In this world, should people slander me, deceive me, insult me, ridicule me, belittle me, disdain me, loathe me, or betray me, what is to be done?
Simply endure them, yield to them, let them be, avoid them, bear them, respect them, ignore them. In a few years, you will see for yourself.”
These words were a perfect reflection of Wang Mo's current predicament, vividly encapsulating his fall from stardom over the past few months. As he spoke, his voice carried a trace of unexpected insight, a touch of poignant emotion, and an indescribable sense of ease.
Silver Moon’s open mouth froze, his expression stiffening in place.
Both livestreams’ comment sections fell silent for a moment.
The impact of Wang Mo’s words left everyone deeply shaken.
“What…”
“Did he really just say that?”
“Did I hear him correctly?”
However, neither Silver Moon nor the viewers were fully convinced. Many still believed that, as before, Wang Mo’s words were nothing more than lines prepared by his team.
But!
Backstage, Yuan Xiong, who was also watching the livestream, suddenly jumped to his feet. “Who gave Wang Mo that line?”
Everyone shook their heads.
Yet as they shook their heads, their eyes were filled with bewilderment and awe.
Liu Zhengwen was present as well. He shook his head. “I’ve read the script. That line isn’t in there.”
“I know,” Yuan Xiong replied hoarsely. “Of course I know it wasn’t in the script. I only wanted to confirm that I wasn’t hallucinating what Wang Mo just said. But… but… how could he come up with such a line?”
It didn’t make sense.
The artistic depth of that line was simply too high.
In Yuan Xiong’s mind, there was no way Wang Mo could have come up with it.
Yet, a moment later, Yuan Xiong rubbed his brow, realizing that although he had managed Wang Mo for three years, he had never truly understood the extent of Wang Mo’s knowledge.
For instance, he had never imagined Wang Mo was so talented in composing music.
Perhaps he didn’t really know Wang Mo at all.
Simply mixing up Yue Meng and Yue Fei hardly proved Wang Mo was uneducated.
Who hasn’t made a slip of the tongue?
He turned to Liu Zhengwen, “Director Liu, what do you think of Wang Mo’s level of knowledge?”
Liu Zhengwen thought for a moment, then replied earnestly, “The fact that he could write both ‘Whatever’ and ‘Invisible Wings’ proves his literary talent is not low. Recently, our composition department held a knowledge seminar, and Wang Mo was able to answer every question about music from his university days, all from memory. I can say with confidence that his knowledge is quite solid—certainly not the illiterate figure the internet portrays. What’s more, he’s been studying diligently lately. To continue learning after graduation is truly rare. Someone like that will excel anywhere.”
Indeed, Wang Mo’s reputation as a studious person had now worked in his favor.
Liu Zhengwen’s words put many doubts to rest, replacing them with admiration for Wang Mo.
Then Liu Zhengwen frowned, glancing at Yuan Xiong with a hint of regret in his tone: “You all focused solely on his looks and chose the popularity route, overlooking his talent. To be honest, that was a mistake.”
“Was it… really?” Yuan Xiong’s expression was somewhat awkward.
…
Back in the livestream.
After Wang Mo finished speaking, he sat upright, facing the camera without saying another word.
Silver Moon finally came to his senses. Though he couldn’t see West Tower’s face, he could see his eyes. To him, West Tower’s gaze was reserved and unhurried; his every movement was measured and proper, radiating a calm composure.
Silver Moon swallowed.
After all, a person’s bearing cannot be disguised.
Just based on West Tower’s demeanor, it was impossible that he was merely a fame-seeker.
Could it be that he had misjudged this time?
No, that was impossible!
He had received definite information—this host was a fraud, without a doubt. Otherwise, why would someone pay him a hundred thousand to do this?
That line earlier was certainly written by the team behind West Tower, not by him personally.
Yes, that must be it.
Silver Moon forced a smile. “West Tower, that line you just said was truly remarkable—I was deeply moved. Your level of self-awareness is impressive, truly impressive. However, that alone doesn’t prove you’re truly talented. Are you willing to accept my challenge?”
Wang Mo smiled faintly, “Since I agreed to connect with you, it means I accept your questions. Go ahead, ask whatever you wish.”
