Chapter 127: God! He Is God!
The next day, Wang Mo and Guo Chen flew directly to Hong Kong.
In a private room at a café, they met with Lin Shaopeng, a first-tier Hong Kong star. At over forty years old, his mature temperament added a layer of charm to his handsome features. Unfortunately, Lin’s expression was icy. Had it not been for Guo Chen’s title as a director from Mango TV, he wouldn't have bothered to see them at all. Even so, he didn't invite them to his home, opting for the café instead.
Upon seeing Wang Mo, Lin was taken aback. This was the head of the show *Where Are We Going, Dad?*? He looked so young—no different from a fresh university graduate. No wonder the program sounded so unreliable. Wang Mo looked slightly familiar, which made Lin take a few extra glances, but given the significant changes in Wang Mo’s attire, hairstyle, and demeanor over the past six months, and the fact that they weren't close, Lin dismissed the thought.
Lin didn't waste time. After a few polite exchanges, he stated his position: "Director Guo, Mr. Wang, I’ll say it again: thank you for the invitation, but I don't want my son on any show. I’m sorry."
*See that?* Guo Chen gave Wang Mo a look—this was exactly the kind of resolute rejection he had been receiving. Wang Mo, however, seemed to ignore the look. His expression turned serious as he asked, "Brother Lin, may I ask you a few questions?"
Lin nodded. "Go ahead."
"Do you spend much time with your child?"
Lin shook his head. "Not much."
"Do you usually concern yourself with your child's growth and education?"
Lin hesitated. "I do, but there's no hands-on involvement."
"So, in other words, you don't. Is your child close to you?"
Lin fell silent, appearing momentarily lost.
*Now!* Wang Mo thought, "System, use the 'Trust Fragment'!"
System: [Request received. Trust Fragment activated. Duration: 30 minutes. All three opportunities have now been exhausted.]
The next second, Wang Mo began his well-rehearsed pitch: "The show we are producing, *Where Are We Going, Dad?*, is essentially designed to fulfill the dream of a father like you. It allows you to live, play, and bond with your child while you work, bridging the distance between you. I must clarify that this is not a typical variety show; it is simply you and several other fathers taking a few trips to the countryside. There is no coercion, no manufactured conflict like in other reality shows. It is a raw, authentic display. You only need to enjoy time with your child.
"You worry about your son being on camera and the impact of media reaction. Rest assured, our goal is to present the most authentic side of celebrity fathers and their children. Once you stand openly in front of the camera with your son, there is another benefit: you will no longer have to go to great lengths to hide from the media just to see him. You can enjoy fatherly joy at any time without any psychological burden..."
Wang Mo had borrowed this argument from the tactics Mango TV once used to persuade Jimmy Lin. He remembered it clearly from an interview he had read. He hadn't expected it to come in handy now.
Mango TV had spent months persuading Jimmy Lin. But as for Wang Mo... when he finished speaking, Lin Shaopeng was silent. Just as Guo Chen feared Lin was about to kick them out, Lin looked up, his eyes filled with complex emotions. "Mr. Wang, how many trips are there?"
"Six," Wang Mo replied instantly. "Each one lasts three days and two nights."
Lin thought for a moment, and a smile appeared on his face. "Eighteen days in total. Since Zi Rui was born, I have never spent such a long time with him. I’ll make the most of this. I hope I can make him proud as a father."
Wang Mo smiled and extended his hand. "Brother Lin, welcome to *Where Are We Going, Dad?*"
Lin sighed with emotion. "Mr. Wang, I didn't think you could persuade me before coming here. But your words touched my heart. I’m willing to give it a try."
Beside him, Guo Chen was stunned. *He agreed? Just like that?* It had been less than thirty minutes since they sat down.
By that evening, Wang Mo had returned to Star City. On the way, Guo Chen was still in a daze, unable to fathom how Wang Mo had succeeded so easily after his own ten days of fruitless effort. He didn't know that Wang Mo was secretly worried: *The three Trust Fragments are gone. I'll have to rely on sheer skill for the next four guests.*
Fortunately, he still had an unopened Silver Chest.
Back in the office, Wang Mo studied the files and discovered that Gao Yong and Lu Zheng-guo were close friends. Guo Chen confirmed this: "When we contacted them, Gao said, 'If you can convince Lu to join, I'll join.' Lu said the exact same thing about Gao."
Wang Mo’s mind raced. He called Yuan Xiong: "Brother Xiong, help me check on Lu Zheng-guo. Is he filming?"
Yuan replied, "He's at Hengdian on a movie set."
"Can you find a way to keep him away from his phone for a day?"
Yuan laughed. "That's easy. He can't use his phone while filming, and I know the director well. I'll have him confiscate it. I can keep him off his phone for three days if you need!"
"Perfect," Wang Mo said. "Just keep his phone turned off from 10 AM to 10 PM tomorrow."
The next day, they met Gao Yong at an event in Star City. Wang Mo got straight to the point: "Director Gao, we’d like to invite you and your son to join *Where Are We Going, Dad?*"
Gao was about to refuse, but Wang Mo continued, "But if Brother Lu had already agreed to join, would you consider it?"
Gao laughed. "Old Lu would never agree."
"But the fact is, Lu Zheng-guo has already confirmed his participation."
Gao was shocked. "Impossible!"
"If you don't believe me, call him."
Gao dialed, but predictably, the phone was off. He tried calling Lu's wife, who knew nothing. Gao hung up, still skeptical. "Old Lu loves his daughter too much to put her on a variety show."
Wang Mo smiled. "Then let me ask you, Director Gao, do you think Lin Shaopeng would ever join?"
Gao scoffed. "No way! Especially not him!"
Wang Mo handed him his phone. "He's busy filming, that's why you can't reach him. But you can reach Brother Lin. He has officially joined. Ask him yourself."
Gao called Lin Shaopeng. A minute later, he hung up, looking dazed. "He... he really joined?"
Wang Mo smiled and repeated the same argument he’d used on Lin. "Please rest assured, this show will only benefit you and your son. We wouldn't invest hundreds of millions into a project that wasn't worthwhile, would we?" (Guo Chen thought: *It was only fifty million, where did the hundreds of millions come from?*)
Gao was convinced. If Lin Shaopeng had joined, Lu joining made sense.
"We came to you because Brother Lu said you were his best friend and he hoped you would join together," Wang Mo added. "If you’re still worried, we can sign a contract. If you join now and find out later that Lu didn't, you are free to withdraw."
Gao, a director himself, hadn't been strictly against his son being on camera. With Lin and Lu already on board, he nodded. "Fine, I’m in."
The second one was secured. Guo Chen was left staring in silent awe.
After signing, Wang Mo rushed to Hengdian with the contracts from Lin and Gao and placed them in front of Lu Zheng-guo. Lu was stunned. He was particularly incensed that Gao, that "son of a bitch," had secretly joined despite his previous claims.
Wang Mo smiled. "What do you say, Brother Lu?"
Lu took a deep breath. "Since Brother Lin and Gao are in, I have nothing to worry about. I told your staff I’d join if Gao did. So, I’m in."
Guo Chen stood by, completely dumbfounded. *This... this actually worked?*
On the way back, Guo Chen finally asked, "Mr. Wang, what if Gao and Lu find out you tricked them?"
Wang Mo looked at him and chuckled. "Tricked them? Director Guo, not a single word I said today was a lie."
*!!!* Guo Chen replayed the conversations in his head and realized it was true. He felt like a fool.
With Lin, Gao, and Lu on board, the remaining two were easy. They weren't major stars, so they didn't have as many reservations. Seeing a first-tier star like Lin Shaopeng join, they hesitated for only a few days before agreeing.
*A genius!* As all five celebrity fathers were signed, Guo Chen had only one thought: *Mr. Wang is a god!*
