“You’re a soul-awakened as well. How could you, in a moment of impulse, choose such a creature?” Lin Qiu shook his head, sighing with genuine regret.

“I’m not a fighter,” replied Liu Changfeng, “I work in technology. Besides, though Da Bai’s bloodline isn’t high, I believe it can evolve over time. As long as I keep researching, Da Bai’s future potential will be enormous. As a scientist, I crave the unknown; it’s only in uncertainty that real challenges exist, isn’t it?” A trace of solitary pride lingered on Liu Changfeng’s face.

He had every reason to be proud. Not yet thirty, he was already the director of the Institute at Martial City, one of the Nine Capitals. Without a diamond-hard skillset, could he ever hold such a delicate position?

Lin Qiu eyed him with surprise, not expecting the man’s ambition to soar so high.

Liu Changfeng was right: bloodline is only innate. If born lacking, then supplement through effort. Like the ancient emperors—who decreed that a beggar could not rule the world? If Liu Changfeng succeeded, Da Bai would become a high-level bloodline beast in the future.

Lin Qiu nodded slightly. “You have lofty aspirations. I retract my earlier words.”

“That’s more like it.” Liu Changfeng smiled, satisfied. With a wave of his right hand, the giant white shark dissolved into starlight, vanishing into his body. On his wrist, within the restrictive watch, a miniature white shark now swam joyfully.

“This fellow is truly a genius!” Lin Qiu glanced at the watch, noticing its style had changed once more—clearly, Liu Changfeng had devised something new again. Compared to him, Lin Qiu’s own contract master was like a block of wood.

Lin Qiu shook his head, sighing in dismay. His mood transferred to Xu Bing, earning him a massive glare.

Lin Qiu and Xu Bing shared a bond of minds. Usually, they each locked away their hearts, keeping their secrets from one another. Yet at times, emotions could still spill over.

Lin Qiu’s sigh was clearly a complaint against her.

“Lin Qiu, the more you dislike me, the more I’ll make sure you pay for it,” Xu Bing sent a telepathic message, causing Lin Qiu to glare right back.

Xu Bing already understood the nature of the contract beast—she knew she couldn’t die, or her partner would perish as well.

“In future dangers, I’ll be the first to rush in,” Xu Bing declared proudly, giving Lin Qiu a mischievous arch of her eyebrow.

Lin Qiu sucked in a cold breath. “System, I’d like to silence her permanently!”

“Host, go ahead! This system can unbind at any time!” came the reply.

“I…” Lin Qiu was left speechless by the system. If he killed Xu Bing, he’d die too, and the system would just find another host.

“You idiot, isn’t it good to stay alive? Are you really intent on dragging me to my doom?” Lin Qiu looked at Xu Bing with deep resentment.

Xu Bing, like a proud swan, lifted her neck and snorted coldly. “If you don’t want this lady doing anything foolish, you’d better serve me comfortably.”

“Fine, you win!” Lin Qiu gritted his teeth, then let defeat show on his face, lowering his head.

He took out a small mirror, gazing at the troubled young man reflected within, and sighed, “Even with such a gloomy expression, the handsomeness shines through. Truly beautiful, isn’t it?”

“Hmm!” At that moment, Liu Changfeng uttered a startled cry.

Lin Qiu looked up to see Liu Changfeng, uncertain and intrigued, standing beside Hei Ze, the glint in his eyes nearly blinding Hei Ze.

“What are you doing?” Hei Ze asked warily.

“Strange, very strange!” Liu Changfeng stroked his chin, pulling a radar-like device from his pocket.

On the miniature radar, streams of data flashed rapidly, accompanied by a faint alarm that sounded repeatedly.

Lin Qiu craned his neck; the radar displayed a sequence from one to ten. The fluctuating data finally settled at eight.

“What’s this?” Lin Qiu’s heart skipped a beat, surprised.

Liu Changfeng’s words made him tense.

“An eighth-level bloodline beast!” Liu Changfeng’s eyes gleamed, saliva nearly dripping from the corners of his mouth.

“An eighth-level bloodline beast—this is a windfall, a huge windfall. I must extract your genes for research, to accelerate my own evolution!”

“What?!” Hei Ze’s head spun as he listened, unease filling him as Liu Changfeng’s shining eyes bore down on him.

He regretted bitterly not having fought to escape before. Now, brought to this cursed place and faced with this madman, how could he possibly leave unscathed?

Hei Ze saw only endless darkness ahead, no light at all.

“What are you doing? Don’t hurt Hei Ze!” The young girl spread her arms to shield Hei Ze.

“Huh?” Only now did Liu Changfeng notice her, momentarily dazzled by her beauty.

“There’s actually such a gorgeous girl in the world.” Liu Changfeng’s eyes grew brighter; he hurriedly struck a gentlemanly pose, flicking his hair, preparing to flirt—when his expression suddenly changed.

The radar’s alarm went off again.

He quickly looked down, watching the data shift once more.

“This…” Liu Changfeng staggered back several steps, now gazing at the girl with terror in his eyes.

“What’s going on?” Xu Bing watched him in confusion, baffled at how this old lecher could be so frightened.

Liu Changfeng had grown up with her and her brother; she knew him well. Whenever he met a pretty girl, he couldn’t help but stop and stare.

For such a lecher to retreat from a delicate girl as if seeing a ghost—this was truly odd.

Her curiosity was piqued. What had Liu Changfeng seen, or what had he discovered?

Curiosity is universal—even a great beauty like Xu Bing was no exception.

She stepped forward, craning her neck to look, and saw the bloodline radar displaying a sequence.

Her pupils contracted sharply, disbelief and terror flooding her eyes.

Xu Bing gasped repeatedly, drawing Lin Qiu’s attention.

What had Liu Changfeng’s bloodline radar revealed?

Lin Qiu leaned in as well—and in the next moment, he let out a terrified scream.

“Ah!”

The piercing shriek made everyone shudder.

It had come too suddenly, too sharply.
