Chapter 23: False Accusation
The commotion below caught the attention of those on the stage, and everyone turned to look. The principals were all visibly shocked.
“Old Zhang, did you secretly give that student some special treatment?” one of the principals said indignantly.
Old Zhang was the principal of Third High School. With a bitter smile, he replied, “Even if I did, do you think it’s possible for a student to go from Level 0 to Level 15 in just seven days?”
“If there were a way, why don’t you all try it yourselves?” The other principals fell silent.
Zheng Zucai glanced at Xu Han with keen interest. “This youngster is quite remarkable. His leveling speed is impressive.”
“Old Wang, go and bring him up here. I’d like to speak with him.”
“Alright.” Old Wang nodded and was about to step down from the stage when Liu Qiangjun hurried to his feet.
“No need to trouble yourselves with such a minor task. I’ll go,” he said, quickly heading toward the crowd below.
…
Below the stage, the students buzzed with excitement.
Su Li covered her mouth in astonishment, her eyes wide as she stared at Xu Han. She had always worried that Xu Han wouldn’t be able to level up, but never expected him to reach Level 15!
Li Bin glared at Xu Han, his teeth clenched. “Impossible! How could this be? He’s Level 15? I’m still at Level 10! He must have cheated—tampered with the machine! I’m going to expose his tricks!”
With that, he strode over to Xu Han. Standing beside him, he demanded, “Xu Han, did you cheat?”
Xu Han shot him a glance. “Idiot. Which eye of yours saw me cheat?”
Li Bin, still grinding his teeth, retorted, “If you didn’t cheat, how do you have 750 points?”
“You must have tampered with the machine!”
Xu Han was speechless, unwilling to waste words on him, and turned to leave.
Seeing Xu Han dare to ignore him, Li Bin’s face flushed red with anger. “Did I give you permission to leave? Get back here!”
He reached out to grab Xu Han, intending to pull him back.
But as his hand was about to touch Xu Han, Xu Han’s hand shot out like lightning, gripping Li Bin’s wrist.
Crack!
The sound was like porcelain shattering.
Li Bin’s wrist bent at an unnatural angle, a full 180 degrees.
A second later, agony stabbed into his mind like steel needles.
“Ah!”
Li Bin clutched his hand in pain, falling to his knees, howling like a pig being slaughtered.
Everyone present stared wide-eyed at the calm-faced Xu Han.
“He hit someone?! Xu Han actually broke a classmate’s hand!”
“Wow… terrifying! Look at him—does he even have any humanity? He injures a classmate and remains unmoved!”
“Xu Han is utterly heartless! Not only did he cheat, but he also attacked his classmate! People like him deserve punishment!”
“Look, the Investigation Bureau is here! Hurry and arrest him! He must be a member of the Abyss Cult!”
“That’s right! He must have used the Abyss Cult’s secret arts to level up so quickly!”
People pointed at Xu Han.
The proctors quickly stood up, carrying Li Bin to the infirmary for treatment.
Members of the Investigation Bureau maintaining order nearby strode over, their faces stern.
“Kneel immediately with your hands on your head! Cooperate with our investigation, or we have the authority to execute you on the spot!”
“That’s right! We suspect you’re with the Abyss Cult! Cooperate, and you might clear your name!”
Xu Han frowned slightly and spoke, “I think everyone saw clearly who struck first.”
“I simply defended myself.”
One of the Investigation Bureau members said coldly, “Is there anyone who can testify for you?”
The other students hurriedly backed away, afraid to be associated with Xu Han.
Xu Han narrowed his eyes, about to speak.
Just then, a girl stepped forward. “I can testify! Li Bin struck first.”
It was Su Li.
The Investigation Bureau members recognized her and were about to question her further when another girl in white robes stepped out from the crowd.
“I saw it too. That guy tried to attack Xu Han!”
“If you’re inferior in skill, you can’t blame Xu Han, can you?”
Xu Han turned to look. It was Xia Ling.
Behind her stood Jin Xiaoxiao and several others.
“That’s right, this brother shouldn’t be blamed,” said a burly figure emerging from the crowd, his voice booming.
It was Iron Mountain.
Seeing the top talents from various schools speak up for Xu Han, the crowd was stunned.
Who exactly was Xu Han, to have so many prodigies supporting him?
As the Investigation Bureau members hesitated, Tian Fangchao suddenly pointed at Xu Han and shouted, “He did it on purpose!”
“Brother Li was only trying to stop him, but he broke Brother Li’s hand!”
“This guy is rotten—he’s a member of the Abyss Cult!”
“Brother Li kindly helped him level up before, and now he repays him like this!”
“Do you have any conscience? I strongly recommend he be investigated! Disqualify his exam results!”
Hearing Tian Fangchao’s words, the wavering students grew angry again.
“How can there be such an ungrateful person? Worse than an animal!”
“He must have never been taught by his parents!”
“He’s definitely with the Abyss Cult! Investigate thoroughly! The Abyss Cult must never enter the Professional University!”
Faced with the crowd’s furious outcry, the Investigation Bureau members’ expressions darkened.
“You must come with us for investigation! If you’re innocent, your name will be cleared!”
Xu Han shook his head helplessly.
Just as he was about to agree, a deep voice rang out, “Wait!”
Everyone turned to look.
A middle-aged man walked straight over—it was Liu Qiangjun, Director of the Education Bureau.
The crowd whispered among themselves.
The proctors stood up respectfully, greeting Director Liu.
Liu Qiangjun came to stand before Xu Han, speaking gently, “Xu Han, Professor Zheng from Dragon Kingdom University wishes to see you. Please come with me.”
The Investigation Bureau members spoke hesitantly, “Director Liu, this isn’t appropriate.”
“He’s suspected of intentional injury. We believe he’s with the Abyss Cult and must be brought in for investigation!”
Liu Qiangjun frowned, “This student was personally requested by Professor Zheng.”
“Do you want to drag him to your bureau and have Professor Zheng meet him there?”
The Investigation Bureau members exchanged uncertain looks.
“If you have no evidence, this is slander! Xu Han is a gifted student of Donghai City!”
“If your baseless accusations ruin his future, I’ll be having a word with your director!”
His tone was stern.
Everyone lowered their heads, not daring to speak.
Liu Qiangjun turned to Xu Han with a smile. “Please, Xu Han.”
