Qiao Jun’s face was gloomy. Since beginning his conversation with Wang Chen, this was the first time he had shown such an expression; until now, he had always appeared calm and unruffled.

His gaze wandered over the floor before he suddenly raised his head to face everyone.

Wang Chen knew that the man had most likely already thought up an excuse.

Sure enough, the first thing Qiao Jun said was, “It seems Student Wang is acquainted with Jiang Sheng. The two of them just had an argument, and Jiang Sheng became agitated and attacked him.”

“I’m only a life-class professional. There was nothing I could do to help.” His face revealed an utterly genuine look of guilt. “I’m sorry, Student Wang.”

Wang Chen gave a cold laugh.

The director turned to him and asked, “Is that what happened?”

Before Wang Chen could answer, Qiao Jun spoke first. “If no one believes what I’ve said, you can simply call Jiang Sheng over and have us confront each other.”

As he spoke, he walked toward the wall, apparently intending to wake Jiang Sheng and confront him face-to-face.

At that moment, Wang Chen strode forward, seized Qiao Jun by the shoulder, twisted his arm, and flipped his hand palm-up.

When Wang Chen saw what was in his palm, he let out a laugh as if confirming his suspicions.

Everyone was stunned by Wang Chen’s swift, decisive movements. The only exception was the bodyguard-like man standing behind Yu Jiayin, whose eyes held a faint trace of approval.

Long Wushuang was the first to react. She stepped forward and helped Wang Chen restrain Qiao Jun.

With his other hand free, Wang Chen picked up the object in Qiao Jun’s palm and held it up for everyone to see.

Between his fingers was a black needle gleaming with a cold light.

“What is that?” the director asked in confusion.

Before anyone could explain, Yu Jiayin spoke. “An alchemical poison needle. Perfect for assassination and silencing witnesses. It’s extremely expensive to make.”

The kindly smile of an elder had vanished from Yu Jiayin’s lips, and his voice had become completely flat.

Anyone familiar with him would have known that he was furious.

“Qiao Jun just tried to kill Jiang Sheng and silence him, leaving Wang Chen without a witness. He intended to insist that Wang Chen and Jiang Sheng had some undisclosed relationship, causing them to fight violently, and that the Security Bureau had nothing to do with it.”

Only Wang Chen and the bodyguard had understood this from the outset. The others finally grasped the situation, their eyes filled with alarm as they turned toward Qiao Jun.

By then, Qiao Jun’s face was ashen.

“I used to deal with things like this quite often. I never imagined that the Security Bureau would be using them now.”

“Truly, you’ve learned from every source and mastered the art of imitation.” Yu Jiayin’s tone was mild, but everyone could hear the sarcasm in his words.

“Ah Qi, search Qiao Jun’s mouth. Make sure he doesn’t bite down on poison and kill himself. Do the same for Jiang Sheng.”

“There’s no need to go to such trouble. I’m not carrying any poison.” Qiao Jun’s voice was low, touched with a hint of self-mockery. “I only let my guard down this once. I never thought I’d end up exposed.”

The bodyguard called Ah Qi, however, had no intention of taking his word for it.

He gripped Qiao Jun’s chin, forced his mouth open, and examined the area around his back teeth to see whether any poison had been hidden there.

He then confiscated the ring on Qiao Jun’s hand, along with anything else that appeared to be spatial equipment.

Afterward, he searched Jiang Sheng using the same procedure.

During this process, Qiao Jun tried to dash his head against the wall while Long Wushuang was distracted.

But Ah Qi’s figure blurred, and he appeared in front of Qiao Jun, expressionless as he restrained him in the chair.

He did not punch Qiao Jun once, nor did he curse him even a single time. Yet through his actions alone, he conveyed one clear message:

Behave yourself. You won’t be causing any trouble on my watch.

Watching from the side, Wang Chen was secretly astonished. When Ah Qi moved, not the slightest glow appeared around him. Clearly, he had not used a skill resembling Wang Chen’s own teleportation.

Could he have relied purely on an exceptionally high Agility attribute, moving so quickly that no one could see him clearly?

Wang Chen pondered this inwardly.

Just how high must his level be? Could he be a Diamond-ranked powerhouse?

Wang Chen studied Yu Jiayin from the corner of his eye. What kind of background did this man have? The fact that such a formidable expert served as his bodyguard was enough to show that he was no ordinary person.

Unexpectedly, Yu Jiayin noticed Wang Chen’s glance. Though he was old, his eyesight was still excellent.

Seeing Wang Chen studying him, Yu Jiayin put on the kindly smile of an elder. “Wang Chen, shall we have a chat?”

Before Wang Chen could react, the director’s heart gave a sudden jolt. That sounded awfully familiar!

He immediately asked nervously, “Elder Yu, you’re not planning to speak with Wang Chen in private as well, are you?”

Yu Jiayin shook his head with a smile. “We’ll talk right here. Everyone may listen.”

He glanced at Qiao Jun, who was bound to the chair, and added, “It will also give certain petty schemers with ulterior motives a clear understanding of the situation.”

“Then please sit while you speak.” The director personally brought Yu Jiayin a chair, then pulled Wang Chen over to stand before him.

“May I ask what guidance you have for me, sir?” Wang Chen respectfully cupped his hands and asked.

“I only want to ask you a few questions and resolve some doubts in this old man’s heart.” Yu Jiayin spoke amiably. “There’s no need to be nervous. If you don’t wish to answer, you needn’t say anything.”

“Please ask whatever you like.” This old man’s bodyguard had saved his life once, so answering a few questions was the least Wang Chen could do.

“Very well. Before you decided to make this public report today, how long did you spend thinking it over?”

“Did you seek anyone else’s advice? Did you fully understand the consequences of what you were doing?”

Wang Chen considered for a moment before answering slowly. “For more than a week before the intercollegiate tournament, I kept thinking about this matter.”

“President Wu of the Luzhou Professionals’ Association gave me some guidance, and I also visited many people myself.”

“By looking at a small part of the whole, I caught a glimpse of the corruption within the Security Bureau’s system and understood that I would be facing a group of villains without any bottom line.”

As he spoke, Wang Chen described several safeguards he had prepared.

For example, the portable teleportation array Wu Zhige had given him, which could send him back to the Professionals’ Association in an emergency.

And the Diamond-ranked professional Wu Jiajie, who had come to protect him.

After hearing all this, Yu Jiayin shook his head. “But you still can’t be certain that you truly have the means to deal with the threats that lie ahead.”

“The Security Bureau is in charge of public order and maintains ties with every sort of person and organization. Do you understand how many people’s interests may be threatened by what you’ve done?”

Everyone in the meeting room found Yu Jiayin’s words deeply reasonable.

Indeed, as Yu Jiayin had said, Wang Chen might have looked triumphant and righteous when he exposed everything, but the risks involved were simply too great.

To be honest, although the director’s reaction had been so extreme, most of his anger and alarm were directed at Qiao Jun for choosing to make his move on the academic committee’s own turf.

He knew perfectly well that Wang Chen would most likely encounter disaster. But the scene he had imagined would take place at night, in Wang Chen’s private residence.

When Wang Chen heard Yu Jiayin’s words, however, he merely smiled calmly.

Yu Jiayin regarded him solemnly. “Don’t think I’m exaggerating. This matter is far more serious than you imagine.”

“You’ve offended certain people without even realizing it.”
