“And now, Qinghua will be sending him an admission letter.”

Zhu Jingjun said calmly, “That means Beisheng will no longer be the best university Wang Chen can attend.”

Ou Yulan immediately understood his meaning. “Teacher Zhu, are you trying to poach a student from Beisheng?”

“Poach is too strong a word. We are merely offering him a choice. If Wang Chen is clever enough, he will know where he ought to go.”

At that, Ou Yulan’s beautiful eyes widened slightly. “Why not just say it outright, Teacher Zhu? You think Beisheng is inferior to Qinghua. Why beat around the bush?”

Zhu Jingjun was utterly unfazed by her glare. “I never said that.”

He lifted the teacup from the table and took a sip. “But everyone knows what the facts are.”

“Didn’t you say before that Wang Chen could not be considered a genius? Why are you suddenly trying to recruit him now?” Ou Yulan challenged.

“Before was before. Now is now. Our understanding is always being revised and corrected.” Zhu Jingjun glanced at her. “Besides, even if he is merely talented, your Beisheng can recruit him. Why can’t Qinghua?”

Ou Yulan laughed despite herself, though irritation colored her expression. “Fine! Since you insist on competing with Beisheng for students, then Beisheng will see this through to the end!”

Faced with what was practically a declaration of war, Zhu Jingjun merely continued drinking his tea, neither agreeing nor objecting.

He acted as though Ou Yulan—and even Beisheng itself—were beneath his notice, watching the large screen expressionlessly as he followed Wang Chen’s latest situation.

The tension between the two men, and between their two top universities, left the other teachers in the conference room trembling with anxiety, terrified of being caught in the crossfire.

Only Yu Jiajin remained as relaxed and carefree as ever, entirely unaffected by the battle raging between them.

He had been the one to discover the extraordinary Wang Chen, but now that Wang Chen had become the most sought-after contender, Yu Jiajin seemed far less interested.

At present, he was drinking tea while using his own small screen to review the scores of the other students.

He looked perfectly at ease.

…

Wang Chen’s team had nearly wiped out the entire herd of hardened-mud boars.

Although a dozen or so still remained within the smoke, they no longer posed any real threat.

Tang Ruotong had already escaped the situation in which the boars had surrounded her. She was now wielding her sword and slaughtering the defenseless beasts.

To avoid the hard shells of mud covering their bodies, she had adopted Long Wushuang’s method, thrusting her sword through their eye sockets to kill them.

As for why she did not use Wang Chen’s method… Tang Ruotong simply cherished her weapon a little too much.

The thought of cleaning those filthy remains from her blade after the battle made her skin crawl. Long Wushuang’s method was much better.

Thus, the three of them proceeded in an orderly fashion, frantically claiming the final points.

Judging by the current rate at which their score was rising, it was easy to predict that once they finished off the herd, they would take first place on the leaderboard.

When that happened, their outstanding performance would surely draw fierce competition from all the top universities.

At the thought, the three of them attacked with even greater vigor.

Yet at that very moment, something unexpected happened.

Just as Tang Ruotong was preparing to thrust her sword into one of the boars, an arrow came flying in and struck the beast in the forehead.

The intense pain made the boar unleash a thunderous howl.

Tang Ruotong’s heart jolted. She turned toward the direction from which the arrow had come.

A group of people was slowly emerging from the woods nearby.

One of them carried a bow. Clearly, he had been the one to fire the arrow.

And beside the archer stood none other than Cai Kun.

Seeing their aggressive approach, Tang Ruotong wanted to retreat into the smoke and avoid their edge, but she could not bring herself to abandon the boar at her feet.

The boar targeted by the archer had been jostled by the movement of the others and rolled outside the smoke, which was why it had caught Cai Kun’s group’s attention.

Tang Ruotong had moved to finish it off first precisely because she feared it might escape.

If she returned to the smoke now, she would effectively be handing the boar over to them.

She was unwilling to do that—especially not to Cai Kun.

With a frown, she stepped forward to meet them. “Cai Kun, what do you think your teammate is doing?”

She pointed her sword at the boar. “We were hunting these beasts first. Now that this one has lost its ability to fight, you come over to take a share of the spoils?”

Cai Kun snorted. “So what if we are?”

On the way here, he had already figured everything out. Given the rate at which Wang Chen’s team was accumulating points, there was no doubt they would reach first place.

But Wang Chen’s team had a weakness: they had spent too much time traveling, leaving them little time to farm points.

Therefore, Cai Kun needed to do only one thing—hold Wang Chen’s team back and deny them the time they needed to score.

If he succeeded, they would be forced to stop somewhere within the top five.

They would still be able to enter some decent schools, but whether they would be chosen by top universities like Beisheng and Qinghua would be another matter entirely.

More importantly, Wang Chen’s boast that he would take first place would come to nothing.

With a little manipulation, Wang Chen would then become a ridiculous clown and the target of universal mockery.

Tang Ruotong was somewhat surprised by Cai Kun’s complete lack of restraint.

She said angrily, “Don’t you feel shameless doing this?”

Cai Kun burst out laughing. “So what if it is shameless? As long as it keeps you held up, I would do anything—no matter how shameless!”

“Do it!” Cai Kun waved his hand and ordered the archer beside him.

The archer swiftly nocked an arrow, drew the bow, and released.

They were already very close to the boar, so this arrow was certain to enter its eye socket in one shot.

At that moment, a flash of cold light flickered above the treetops, and a streak of radiance shot forth in an instant.

It struck the arrow fired by the archer, driving it firmly into the ground. The fletching continued to tremble.

The archer’s pupils contracted.

The arrow that had intercepted his own in midair had come from another bow.

And in both accuracy and power, that arrow had been far superior to his.

“There’s an expert here,” the archer whispered to Cai Kun.

“I could tell that much just by looking, you idiot!” Cai Kun barked.

Then he raised both hands. “You don’t want us to kill this beast, but we are going to kill it anyway! Brothers! Let’s help our classmate out!”

As he spoke, they prepared to move behind Tang Ruotong.

Whoosh—

A streak of radiance flashed across the air, and an arrow struck the ground directly in front of Cai Kun’s feet.

Cai Kun jumped in fright. It had missed by less than half an inch; otherwise, the arrow would have pierced straight through his foot.

He immediately shouted furiously, “What kind of skill is hiding and firing sneak attacks? If you have the courage, come out and face me!”

“Wang Chen! Come out of the smoke! What, are you afraid to show yourself?”

From within the smoke behind Tang Ruotong came Wang Chen’s voice.

“Kunny, your provocation is terribly clumsy. Even a child in kindergarten wouldn’t fall for it.”

“Besides, this is my skill. Why shouldn’t I make use of it?”

“Oh, right. I remember you’re a blood mage, aren’t you? You need to use your own blood as a medium to wield your power.”

“How about this? Drain yourself completely of blood, and I’ll come out of the smoke. Fair enough?”

Wang Chen’s mocking words made the veins on Cai Kun’s forehead bulge, yet he could not think of anything with which to refute him.
