Chapter 150: Facing the Hard-Mud Wild Boar Herd!
Golden Zone.
Wang Chen swung the Forest Gale Staff, manipulating a column of water that crushed the skull of a ferocious beast.
Slaying this golden-grade beast earned him a substantial number of points, causing the leaderboard to scroll rapidly.
Tang Ruotong wiped the blood from her sword and turned with a smile. “Wang Chen, you were right. These golden-grade beasts aren’t as difficult to handle as we imagined.”
She glanced at the leaderboard. “And the points they yield are quite impressive.”
Long Wushuang held his bow and said, “This is the result of our teamwork. Also, the long-necked pheasant beasts are relatively weak, which made it easier.”
Feigning a pitiful tone, he added, “We’ll still have to rely a lot on Comrade Tang, to protect us two in the back row. Without you, Chen and I would be smashed to bits by these beasts!”
Tang Ruotong chuckled at his odd tone.
“Stop pretending to be a delicate man!” Wang Chen jabbed Long Wushuang in the ribs with a disgruntled elbow. “With your physique, you could wield a sword as a shield. And you’re still playing the role of a backliner.”
Long Wushuang chuckled. “It’s just motivational talk to boost Teacher Tang’s fighting spirit.”
“All right, all right, you have a point,” Wang Chen replied helplessly. “Seriously though, don’t think the Golden Zone is a breeze just because these long-necked pheasant beasts were manageable.”
“What if we encounter a powerful beast species…”
Before he could finish, a series of thunderous rumbles echoed from nearby, shaking stones on the ground.
The three exchanged looks, their expressions darkening.
“Judging by the sound, these are tough opponents, and there won’t be few of them!” Long Wushuang said grimly.
“Take cover under the trees. If things go south, we’ll have room to dodge,” Wang Chen instructed.
They quickly darted toward the sturdy trees nearby.
These trees were thick enough to require four people to encircle, numbering around a dozen—a perfect shield against enemies.
Hiding behind the trees, the trio held their breath, waiting for the beasts to appear.
A cloud of dust swept toward them, merging into white smoke. The dust was sandy yellow, the smoke pale white, and where the two colors blended, a pack of terrifying beasts charged out.
They resembled wild boars, each massive and round-bodied, weighing around four to five hundred pounds.
Their bodies were coated in dried mud shells, under which glimpses of blackened skin could be seen.
The lead beast charged to the spot where Wang Chen and his companions had just stood and halted.
The beasts behind it collided with the front ones in their rush.
A continuous dull thud echoed.
Yet, despite these impacts capable of crushing cars, the front beasts were merely toppled momentarily before shaking themselves off unharmed.
“This is troublesome. Their defense and strength look formidable,” Wang Chen thought grimly.
Purple light flashed in his eyes as the beasts’ information flooded his mind.
[Hardened Mud Boar, Level 23]
[Skill 1: Toughened Hide — Having rolled in muddy swamps for years, the mud dries into a hardened shell on its body, impervious to blades, providing excellent protection.]
[Skill 2: Ferocious Charge — This beast possesses immense muscular power, able to gather strength briefly before launching a collision with the force to snap gold and break wood.]
[Skill 3: Earthquake Stampede — A cumulative skill of this species; when a herd leaps and lands in unison with incredible discipline, the ground around them collapses.]
Though there was abundant information about the Hardened Mud Boar, the Beast’s Eye allowed Wang Chen to grasp it instantly.
“If we fight them head-on, this will be a tough battle!” Wang Chen thought.
There’s a saying: “One boar, two bears, three tigers.” Encountering wild boars in the forest, especially a herd, is more terrifying than facing bears or tigers.
Their relentless charges will smash through any obstacle in their path.
Not to mention their formidable protective mud shells.
Wang Chen resolved not to engage in a direct clash, or it would be a disastrous defeat.
With this in mind, he whispered to Long Wushuang, “Climb the tree and wait for the right moment to shoot the boars.”
Long Wushuang’s profession was Swift Archer, not known for defense, so Wang Chen wanted him safely positioned first.
Without hesitation, Long Wushuang slung his bow on his back and began climbing.
Trusting Wang Chen completely, he didn’t need to question the overall strategy; he knew Wang Chen had it all figured out.
Despite his bulk, Long Wushuang climbed with surprising agility.
He produced a length of rope between his fingers, tied it around the tree trunk as a secure grip point, and pressed his feet against the trunk.
With this methodical progress, he swiftly ascended.
While Long Wushuang climbed, Wang Chen turned quietly to Tang Ruotong.
“Get ready to handle any charging boars.”
Tang Ruotong, a Holy Shield Knight, could withstand the boars’ charges, so she stayed below to support Wang Chen.
As Wang Chen arranged their strategy, the boars sniffed the air with their disc-sized snouts, detecting residual scents.
After a moment, they locked onto Wang Chen’s position and charged fiercely in a surrounding formation.
Wang Chen waved the Forest Gale Staff.
Speed of the Divine!
A light, nimble radiance burst from the staff’s tip, and a ripple passed over Wang Chen and Tang Ruotong, making them feel noticeably lighter.
This allowed them to dart between the trees with ease, evading the boars’ charges.
The boars’ eyesight seemed poor; they did not target Wang Chen by the staff’s glow.
It seemed the smoke was enough to blind them.
If these were thugs hired by Cai Kun, Wang Chen’s casting would have triggered an immediate attack.
However, their sense of smell was sharp, and Wang Chen knew they would be found soon enough.
There was no time to waste. Wang Chen swung the Forest Gale Staff again, electric sparks flashing from its tip.
Lightning Barrier!
With a flash, three glowing electric shields appeared, circling Tang Ruotong quietly.
Wang Chen flicked his fingers, downing a potion and casting again.
After drinking four potions in succession, fifteen lightning barriers shimmered around Tang Ruotong.
She looked like a thunderous war goddess.
“Tang Ruotong, it’s up to you now. While I’m casting, hold back the boar herd.”
Tang Ruotong nodded solemnly, shield in left hand, sword in right, ready for battle.
At that moment, the Hardened Mud Boars finally locked onto Wang Chen’s group by scent.
With a rising chorus of roars, they charged ferociously.
Three boars led the charge, crashing into the tree Tang Ruotong was behind.
The thick trunk shattered into pieces upon impact!
Tang Ruotong leapt from behind the trunk, dodged aside, then sprang up again, gripping her sword tightly as she swung down at the nearest boar!
