Chapter 055: Last Night, She Was With Me
Liu Zhen's dream lasted the entire night, and it was only when Bai Chuwei had to wake up for school that Liu Zhen reluctantly tore herself away from her slumber. After getting up, she grinned foolishly at the inch-long silver needles in her acupuncture kit.
Bai Chuwei handed over the task of mercilessly needling Old Master Duan to Liu Zhen, forbidding herself from meddling any further.
She went through her morning routine and headed off to school. She hadn't even finished the early self-study period when several class representatives came by, telling her to see the teachers in the office.
Bai Chuwei walked into the senior year teachers' office, where Director Huang greeted her with a kindly smile. Thanks to that little bottle of medicine from Bai Chuwei, Director Huang's stomach had been feeling much better. Every time he saw this pretty girl, a beam of delight lit up his face.
With Zhou Feng ill and hospitalized, Li Juan was now acting as the homeroom teacher for Class Nine. Her face was cold as she called Bai Chuwei over.
Class Nine, filled with top students, was the crown jewel of the school. To have it handed to her was like having stacks of cash stuffed into her sack! For every student the class sent to a prestigious university, the school awarded a hefty bonus.
But now, Bai Chuwei was in the mix—a student who would undoubtedly drag down the class average!
Li Juan gazed frostily at Bai Chuwei, barely beginning to speak: “You—”
A thunderous fart exploded through the room. The entire office fell silent for a moment, everyone stifling their laughter and pretending nothing had happened.
Li Juan's cheeks flushed crimson. Facing Bai Chuwei’s half-smiling, half-mocking expression, her anger only burned hotter. Ever since taking Director Huang's pills yesterday, she'd been feeling unwell, even vomiting on her way in that morning.
And now, this humiliating incident—she’d completely lost face.
Mustering her composure, Li Juan forced herself to ask, “Bai Chuwei, skipping evening study yesterday was one thing, but why haven’t you handed in your homework today?”
Bai Chuwei looked at her in mild surprise. “I didn’t do it, so of course I didn’t turn it in.”
Li Juan nearly choked on her fury. “And why didn’t you do your homework?”
“I didn’t feel like it,” Bai Chuwei answered.
If not for the need to follow the plot, she wouldn’t even bother coming to school.
The moment Bai Chuwei finished speaking, a graceful figure stepped through the doorway, placing a stack of exercise books on the desk with a sweet smile. “Ms. Li, here’s the Chinese homework from Class Eleven—everyone has handed theirs in.”
Tong Qingyan glanced at Bai Chuwei and asked with a gentle smile, “Bai, did you skip doing your homework because you just transferred here and aren’t used to things yet?”
Bai Chuwei’s expression was languid, but she sensed a faint, almost imperceptible hostility from the heroine. Her red lips quirked up as she replied indifferently, “It seems your hearing isn’t very good, Tong. I just said I didn’t feel like doing it.”
Tong Qingyan’s smile froze for a moment, taken aback by Bai Chuwei’s bluntness.
Seeing her favorite student rebuffed by this useless troublemaker, Li Juan’s anger skyrocketed. She slammed her palm on the desk with a loud crack, her face growing even colder. “Bai Chuwei, if you’re not doing your homework, are you playing games or watching videos? Do you think you’re Tong Qingyan? She does live streams and videos in her spare time, but she still ranks in the top ten of her grade—can you do that?”
Bai Chuwei gently covered her nose and replied, “If I wanted to, I could.”
The point was whether she wanted to or not.
The ancient ancestor preferred to drift through life unbothered, hardly inclined to study.
Li Juan was so incensed by Bai Chuwei’s calm replies that she felt her hair stand on end. She snapped, “What exactly were you doing last night? If you can’t give a good explanation, you’ll write a three-thousand-word reflection!”
No sooner had she finished speaking than a deep, harp-like male voice rang out from behind, “She was with me last night.”
