Chapter 147: Begging His Pardon
Bai Chuwei was contemplating whether to reply to Duan Feihan that he was overthinking things when a girl walked past her and sneered with a sarcastic edge, "You haven't learned anything else at school, but you've certainly mastered the art of stringing men along."
Clearly, Bai Yinyin had also caught wind of Cao Yushu sending a "love letter" to Bai Chuwei.
With Duan Xingye as her desk mate and connections to Fourth Master Duan, Bai Chuwei surely wouldn't lower her standards for someone like Cao Yushu. So, what was her game?
Based on past experience, Bai Chuwei was simply leading Cao Yushu on to milk him dry of his money before dumping him mercilessly.
Duan Xingye and Su Ruan turned red with anger. They already knew from earlier that Cao Yushu had sought Bai Chuwei out for medical treatment!
Bai Chuwei narrowed her eyes slightly, a frosty glint flashing in their depths. "Bai Yinyin, judging by the way you talk, you must have plenty of experience stringing men along yourself."
The smile froze on Bai Yinyin's face, and she glared fiercely at Bai Chuwei.
Knowing how Bai Yinyin usually treated Bai Chuwei, Duan Xingye chimed in with a taunt, "Instead of studying properly at school, you're always all dressed up like a peacock."
Bai Yinyin suddenly covered her mouth in a snicker, casting a meaningful glance at Bai Chuwei. "She wishes she had the chance to dress up like this, but she doesn't."
The surrounding students immediately burst into discussion, their eyes filled with envy.
"Isn't Bai Yinyin going to meet Professor Zhao Guangming from the Calligraphy Department of Imperial University this afternoon? It's only natural for her to dress up a bit."
"If she manages to get on Professor Zhao's good side, I wonder if she'll have a shot at getting into Imperial University in the future?"
Imperial University was one of the premier institutions in the country. Even though many students didn't care much for the Calligraphy Department, that didn't mean one couldn't transfer departments after getting into Imperial University!
What was the point of taking the college entrance exams anyway? Wasn't it just to get into a top university? With top-tier prestigious universities right here in the country, why waste money trying to get a gilded resume abroad?
Bai Chuwei looked at Bai Yinyin with a half-smile, tossing out a casual remark: "I warned you, Professor Zhao probably isn't looking for you."
Don't go, or you'll only bring humiliation upon yourself.
Bai Yinyin glared viciously at Bai Chuwei. Since Bai Chuwei lacked the capability to meet Professor Zhao herself, she must be trying to rattle her nerves. In her dreams!
At four in the afternoon, amidst the envious gazes of her classmates, Bai Yinyin walked out of the classroom with her chin held high and a small backpack slung over her shoulder.
Ordinarily, Bai Yinyin would have loved to skip the whole day to converse with Professor Zhao, but Professor Zhao was worried about disrupting her studies, so he had scheduled it for later in the day.
As soon as she arrived at the designated meeting spot, Bai Yinyin spotted an elegant elderly man sipping tea.
Suppressing her excitement, Bai Yinyin walked up to him and took the initiative to greet him: "Professor Zhao, hello, I am Bai Yinyin."
Professor Zhao, harboring his own excitement, smiled benevolently and asked, "Student Bai, did I interrupt anything by asking you to meet me today?"
Bai Yinyin shook her head like a rattle-drum.
What interruptions could there possibly be? At worst, it was just the Bai family gathering for a dinner tonight to formally introduce Bai Chuwei to her eldest uncle's family.
She had already argued with her grandfather yesterday; even if she skipped Bai Chuwei's welcome party today, there was nothing they could do to her.
Bai Yinyin opened her backpack, took out the calligraphy awards she had accumulated over the years one by one, and began to speak endlessly about her understanding of calligraphy.
The more Professor Zhao listened, the stranger he felt, his brows gradually knitting into deep furrows.
It wasn't that Bai Yinyin's explanation was poor, but rather... before a veteran calligraphy professor like him, her points were far too superficial.
When Bai Yinyin finished, she looked at Professor Zhao with expectant eyes. "Professor Zhao, what do you think of my explanation?"
Professor Zhao believed in the adage that "handwriting reflects the person." Looking at the spirited, ethereal calligraphy on the test paper, he had originally expected to meet a young girl with an equally pure and transcendent aura.
Pardon his bluntness, but Bai Yinyin's aura didn't resemble that of a student capable of writing such ethereal characters at all.
