Chapter 133: If It Is You Who Comes to Pick Me Up, Then I Have No Umbrella
The rain was heavy and showed no sign of letting up.
Bai Chuwei packed her bag and glanced at the worried Duan Xingye. She casually said, “Xu Xingchen’s fate is far greater than yours. At worst, he’ll suffer some bruises but won’t die.”
Xu Xingchen and Tong Qingyan were the male and female protagonists of this book—both children of destiny. They weren’t so easily killed.
Bai Chuwei picked up a transparent white umbrella by her feet, slung her bag over one shoulder, and stepped outside.
Cao Yushu stealthily distanced himself from Bai Chuwei like a thief, whispering, “Bai, my driver is waiting outside. Let’s go first.”
Bai Chuwei raised an eyebrow, smiling, “You really don’t have faith in my medical skills?”
Cao Yushu’s handsome face flushed crimson in an instant, his head shaking like a rattle.
He just found it unbelievable.
If others saw him following Bai Chuwei, they’d surely guess he was seeking medical treatment from her. He was fine in every way except for one fatal flaw: his height.
If the treatment failed, the girls in class would mock him again for being a shorty who stubbornly tried to improve.
Bai Chuwei pondered and said, “Tell those people that if anyone dares mock you for being short, I won’t accept any appointment requests from them.”
She hated verbal bullying above all.
---
Cao Yushu’s eyes reddened. Struggling, he held the umbrella over Bai Chuwei’s head—after all, she was taller than him.
Bai Chuwei stepped out from under the umbrella and opened her own transparent one. “I’ll hold it myself.”
The two walked out of the school, one behind the other. At the gate, a sleek black car approached, splashing a small spray of water from its tires.
Bai Chuwei looked at the refined, ethereal man and was surprised. “Hanhan, why are you here?”
Duan Feihan quietly observed Cao Yushu beside Bai Chuwei. He was unremarkable, not even comparable to his own nephew.
Duan Feihan averted his gaze and answered, “You didn’t have an umbrella, so I came to pick you up.”
The smile on Bai Chuwei’s face slowly faded. Did they all understand the same thing?
Weren’t they supposed to be her followers?
Duan Feihan looked at Bai Chuwei’s falling smile in surprise, then his eyes shifted to the transparent umbrella in her hand. “But it looks like you have an umbrella now.”
Duan Feihan suspected Xiaozhou had misunderstood Bai Chuwei’s meaning as well.
Bai Chuwei took a deep breath and put her smile back on. Her eyes glowed with a scorching amusement as she walked toward an elderly man nearby.
The old man had gotten out of a small car and stood frowning at the guard post without an umbrella. Bai Chuwei handed him the umbrella directly. “Sir, this is for you.”
---
The elderly man looked surprised, his voice tinged with the dialect of the capital city. “Thank you, young lady.” He was clearly from the imperial capital.
Bai Chuwei didn’t give it much thought. Smiling brightly, she approached Duan Feihan, resting her hand on the car window. A raindrop silently bloomed on the back of her hand as she spoke, her voice like a spring breeze circling morning dew: “If you had come to pick me up, then I wouldn’t have had an umbrella.”
Her eyes shone with the faint light of spring—radiant and dazzling.
She watched Duan Feihan fidget with the sandalwood Buddhist beads on his left wrist, his ears slightly reddening. Out of nowhere, he said, “Focus on your studies now. Don’t let anything else distract you.”
Bai Chuwei sighed inwardly. What was with this future villain?
For five thousand years, everyone else begged to be her follower. Why was he so shy and awkward about being her subordinate? And why did he insist on prioritizing studies?
The rain continued to pour relentlessly. Cao Yushu hesitated under his umbrella, then softly asked, “Bai… Bai, are we still going to my house today?”
“Of course! We’re going!”
Duan Feihan’s gaze sharpened coldly. “A girl going to a male classmate’s house after school in the evening?”
