Ye Xi, along with the villa’s servants, prepared a lavish dinner. The dishes stretched along the long table to its end—large platters brimming with exquisite delicacies, vibrant in color and fragrant in aroma, their presentation alone whetting one’s appetite with a bold grandeur.

“Mother, isn’t this too much?” Shangguan Ranyan, descending the stairs alongside Huang Pu Shenqing, gazed at the sumptuous feast, lost in deep thought.

“Not at all, not too much at all. Sit down quickly, Huang Pu,” Ye Xi warmly invited Huang Pu Shenqing. “It’s rare for you to come over for a meal, so don’t hold back—eat to your heart’s content.”

Huang Pu Shenqing smiled in response.

Shangguan Ranyan took the seat to his left, opposite Shangguan Xing and Ye Xin.

Ye Xi continuously used the serving chopsticks to offer dishes to Huang Pu Shenqing, ladled soup for him, and so forth.

The scene stirred jealousy in both Shangguan Xing and Shangguan Ranyan.

Ye Xin chuckled softly, lowering her head to eat.

Shangguan Xing, a man unwilling to accept the status quo, couldn’t help but speak up, “Huang Pu, when did you and Ranyan get together? You’ve kept it well hidden! Is it that if we hadn’t found out this time, you’d have kept it a secret forever?”

After Ye Xi handed Huang Pu Shenqing some soup, she discreetly pinched Shangguan Xing’s thigh beneath the table, silently telling him not to ask such foolish questions.

Shangguan Xing held back.

Taking the clear broth Ye Xi offered, Huang Pu Shenqing apologized, “Uncle, I was inconsiderate. I wanted to wait until the time was right; I didn’t mean to hide anything.”

On the contrary, he was itching to announce to the world that the young lady belonged to him.

Shangguan Ranyan quickly interjected, “Father, it’s not his fault. I kept it from you.”

“Hmph, how long has it been? Already playing protectively?”

“No, I’m just… being honest.”

The rest of her words were so faint under her father’s stern gaze they were barely audible.

Huang Pu Shenqing took a disposable glove from the side and began peeling shrimp and crab for the young lady.

Shangguan Xing snorted coldly, “Who can’t do that? Honey, let me do it for you.”

Ye Xi looked at the warm scene opposite, her expression gentle. Hearing him say that, she replied calmly while eating, “No need.”

Ye Xin, watching the whole time, smiled as she ate.

The servants attending nearby covered their mouths to stifle their laughter.

Though Ye Xi dismissed it, Shangguan Xing was a man who kept his word. He still put on gloves to peel shrimp and crab for his wife, but his skill was lacking; several times he pricked his hand, the pain breaking his usually composed expression.

Ye Xi looked at him as if to say, “See? I told you so.”

Huang Pu Shenqing served a plate of peeled shrimp and crab to the young lady, and another plate, presented with gentlemanly grace, to Ye Xi.

His intentions were good, but Shangguan Xing was so furious he wanted to overturn the table.

What did this mean?

Did they look down on him?

Thus, Shangguan Xing transferred all his frustration onto the crab, continuing his struggle.

Ye Xin happily took the crab, sighing inwardly at his meticulousness.

The meal left Ye Xi and the others fully satisfied—except for Shangguan Xing.

He was not only upset but, despite his efforts, had failed to extract a decent piece of crab meat; all he managed was shrimp.

When he happily offered the shrimp meat to Ye Xi, she replied naturally, “I’m full.”

Yet, to save face, she ate two pieces.

This earned Shangguan Xing an increasingly intense glare from Huang Pu Shenqing.

“Huang Pu, why don’t you stay here tonight? I’ve asked Sister Zhang to prepare the guest room.”

“Alright, thank you, Aunt.”

“Not at all, I’m glad to have you here.”

Thus, Huang Pu Shenqing stayed over without causing any disturbance and left for the company the next day.

Ye Xi quietly admired his politeness and good nature.

Huang Pu Shenqing’s early arrival at the office startled Mo Yi, Mo Jiu, and the others.

In a good mood, the man picked up a pen to handle business but frowned upon seeing the three of them frozen in place.

“What’s the matter? Have you finished all the work?”

Mo Yi replied nervously, “Not yet… these documents are still here.”

Huang Pu Shenqing took the papers, acknowledging with a faint “hmm.”

Mo Jiu cautiously asked, “Master, why… why are you here so early today?”

It was only five o’clock, two hours before work started—is that alright? Did something happen?

Mo Yi and the others lived at the company. Though they had private homes, they found it more convenient to stay here.

It was still dark when they saw their master’s car enter the garage via surveillance. They scrambled out of bed, hurriedly washing and dressing, their hearts racing.

Huang Pu Shenqing lowered his head, speaking calmly and steadily, “Last night, Aunt prepared dinner, and I ate a bit too much, so I stayed at Ranyan’s house. I didn’t want to trouble them in the morning, so I came here early.”

Listen to that.

How natural.

How fitting.

Yet why did they feel it was nothing but blatant boasting?

Page 3/3

What does “Aunt prepared dinner” mean?

What does “ate a bit too much” mean?

What does “stayed at her house” mean?

What does “didn’t want to trouble them, so came early” mean?

Could it be that you stayed up all night excited and came to the office this morning just to show off?

Mo Yi, Mo Jiu, and Mo Shi internally railed against this.

What an impatient eagerness to share!

So slyly flirtatious!

Huang Pu Shenqing said, “Keep that serum. Ranyan doesn’t need it anymore.”

Mo Yi asked, “Why? Does Sister Shangguan have a better serum?”

Huang Pu Shenqing looked up, a gleam of fierce determination flashing in his eyes. “The young lady’s blue eyes are so beautiful—why hide them? Those who should hide are others.”

“Go contact Mo Ba and see how the investigation is going.”

Mo Shi replied, “Yes, I’m contacting him now.”

Looking around the office, only Mo Yi and Mo Jiu remained.

“Anything else?”

“N-no… nothing else.”

“Then shall I ask you to leave?”

“N-no, we’ll go right away, right away.”

Mo Yi and Mo Jiu respectfully withdrew and closed the door.

They patted their chests, “That was terrifying.”

Mo Yi solemnly patted Mo Jiu’s shoulder, “Brother, I’m used to it now.”

When Shangguan Ranyan woke, Huang Pu Shenqing had already left.

While having breakfast, Ye Xi recounted his many virtues to her, concluding simply that she was very, very satisfied with this son-in-law.

Shangguan Xing snorted but said nothing.

After breakfast, Shangguan Ranyan arranged to meet with Ouyang Muya.

Ouyang Muya knew well about Xia Wanqing’s situation, so she said nothing of the past events.

She took her to a beauty salon to relax and unwind.
