Huangfu Shenqing's icy gaze shifted toward him, sending a shiver of terror through the man. Recovering quickly, the inmate flared up with vicious anger, muttering, "What the hell are you staring at? Just wait until recreation time, and I'll show you what I'm made of!"

Cowering and shrinking their necks, the other prisoners hid in the dark corners of the cell block, not daring to utter a single word, hardly even breathing, trying to make their existence as minuscule as possible.

Recreation time was a period designated for everyone to rest, which included synchronized dining hours, outdoor fresh-air breaks, or individual trips to the restroom. Naturally, all of these activities were subject to strict time limits. Even the wardens supervising this floor had suffered beatings at his hands, so they simply turned a blind eye and pretended not to hear.

This drug lord, sentenced to fifty years, was named Droppi. Because of his immense political backing, his sentence had been commuted from the death penalty to a suspended one, and further reduced from life imprisonment.

Huangfu Shenqing regarded him as nothing more than worn-out shoes, pulling out a photograph of the young woman he carried with him and gazing at it with deep affection.

It was already seven o'clock in the evening. Starting from one o'clock in the afternoon, it had taken six hours of travel to reach the prison. Moreover, the prison's dinner time was at five-thirty in the afternoon, meaning Huangfu Shenqing had already missed it. Coupled with the fact that he hadn't had time to eat anything when he flew from the Admiral's Mansion that morning, and had subsequently been taken by the Allied Forces to the Federation prison at one o'clock in the afternoon, he had now gone twenty-six hours without food.

Seeing his fearless demeanor, Droppi secretly gnashed his teeth, his attitude extremely arrogant. "You just wait for me!"

Over by the cell, a warden arrived with a few guards. They walked up to Huangfu Shenqing's cell and struck the bars with a baton. "Hey, your interrogation time is up. Come out quickly!"

The man behind him walked up to the cell door, unlocked it, and signaled for Huangfu Shenqing to step out.

Droppi sat on the floor of his cell. His fat face bore several deep scars that exposed the raw flesh beneath. As if immune to the bitter cold, he exposed his sturdy, thick chest and arms, which were densely covered with tattoos of dragons, tigers, and serpents—a sight chilling and trembling to behold.

He raised his middle finger at Huangfu Shenqing, who was rising to leave, his eyes filled with ridicule and mockery, his arrogance utterly unbridled.

Huangfu Shenqing didn't even spare such trash a glance; tricks like this were things he had long since grown tired of playing with, making the man as ignorant and self-important as a frog at the bottom of a well.

The prison guards escorted him to an interrogation room in another section.

As Huangfu Shenqing walked down the corridor where the lights gradually dimmed and the air grew increasingly thin toward the underground interrogation room, a flash of endless cynicism crossed his eyes. On the surface, the Federation championed justice for all nations, but its underlying motive was always the pursuit of self-interest.

They forced Huangfu Shenqing onto an electric chair. Two iron handcuffs materialized out of thin air along the edges of the chair, their pitch-black metal cuffs locking down both of Huangfu Shenqing's wrists. At the base, shackles likewise appeared to clamp his legs firmly in place.

Huangfu Shenqing's profound gaze swept over them with detached calm, as if attempting to memorize every single one of their faces, remaining completely indifferent to his bound condition.

There were five prison personnel conducting the interrogation, each of them robust and possessing immense physical strength. They had been specially selected to interrogate criminals.

The chief interrogator, named Lari, was the officer in charge of the first-floor interrogations. In his hand, he held a long whip made of thick hemp rope intertwined with exceptionally tough steel wire. When used to flog criminals, it not only caused their entire bodies to go numb with agony but also inflicted a fine, piercing pain that drilled straight into the heart.

He spoke casually, "Mr. Huangfu Shenqing, would you care to explain the reason behind your bombing of someone else's castle?"

Huangfu Shenqing raised his head, looked down at him with a glance of utter contempt, and then averted his gaze in disgust.

Stung to the quick by that dismissive look, Lari lashed out viciously with the whip.

*Crack!*

A long gash was torn across Huangfu Shenqing's expensive suit, revealing the white shirt underneath stained with threads of blood. Without uttering a single sound, he lowered his gaze and stared calmly at the floor.

Lari swung the whip down fiercely once more. "I asked you a question. Are you mute or something?"

Another long gash opened up on the other side, blood welling across his wheat-colored chest. Even his fair neck was lashed open, bleeding freely.

*Crack!*

*Crack!*

Two more lashes rained down.

"Hurry up, why did you do it?"

*Crack, crack, crack!*

*Crack, crack, crack!*

"Ah! Where is your arsenal located?"

*Crack, crack, crack!*

*Crack, crack, crack!*

"Where were those private weapons of yours researched and developed?"

*Crack, crack, crack!*

*Crack, crack, crack!*

"You certainly have endurance. Let's see how much longer you can hold out!"

*Crack, crack, crack!*

*Crack, crack, crack!*

*Crack, crack, crack!*

After more than fifty lashes in total, Huangfu Shenqing had not uttered a single groan. The flesh was already beaten to a bloody pulp, mangled and torn. His black suit was reduced to rags, the torn white shirt stark against dazzling, blinding fresh blood that embedded itself deep into the wounds, while his legs were covered from top to bottom with whip marks.

Cold sweat rolled down Huangfu Shenqing's forehead in relentless waves, dampening his dark hair, dripping down drop by drop. His face was etched with profound pain, his complexion maintaining a translucent pallor. His stomach churned with agonizing cramps from having gone without a single drop of water, and the wounds left by the flogging radiated a piercing, bone-deep torment with every passing second.

Provoked to fury and exasperation by a man who refused to yield to either soft or hard tactics, Lari threw down his whip and barked an order to the others: "Increase the voltage!"

Someone nearby tried to stop him. "Lari, have you lost your mind? This is someone explicitly ordered by the superiors to be kept alive and intact. We cannot touch the voltage controls!"

Shoving him aside with a look of intense dissatisfaction, Lari snapped, "Get lost, Artem. I refuse to believe he won't talk!"

"Turn up the voltage to one hundred!"

The others switched on the voltage regulator, dialed it to one hundred volts, and slammed the switch down.

*Ah—!*

The electric current coursed through Huangfu Shenqing's entire body in mere moments, bringing with it excruciating agony and causing his hands to clench involuntarily into tight fists.

After holding the current for about eight seconds, they switched it off.

Lari glared at him intensely. "How's that? Not a pleasant sensation, is it? Quick, what was your objective?"

Suppressing the torment racking his body, Huangfu Shenqing cast a dark, ominous gaze at him. "I had... no objective. ...And furthermore, I... will remember you."

*Ah—!*

The voltage was dialed up to one hundred and fifty.

"Is that so? Let's see if you even have the life left in you to walk out of here!"

"Keep increasing it!"

*Ah—!*

The pain caused Huangfu Shenqing's body to involuntarily curl inward, but because his arms and legs were tightly bound by the restraints, fresh blood seeped out from the friction against the cuffs.

Good God, just how intense must the pain have been to grind his hands until they bled?

The voltage was pushed to two hundred.

"Damn it, speak!"

Lari picked up the whip again and lashed viciously across that perfectly chiseled, pale face.

Huangfu Shenqing glared at him with ferocious intensity, looking like a demon emerging straight from hell, his tone venomous and merciless: "You... how dare you... lay a hand on my face?"

He had always protected himself so his girl wouldn't worry, never allowing his face to be injured—yet this man, how dared he?!

Artem pulled Lari back. "Enough! You cannot increase it any further. He has already reached his limit."

Lari shrugged him off. "I'm not like you, Artem, you coward."

He turned back to look at the furious prisoner. "So I touched your face, what of it? Can you kill me? Heh, laughable."

"Turn it up!"

Artem shouted, "Lari!"

The voltage was cranked to the maximum: two hundred and fifty.

*Ah—!*

Though the current was cut off after a mere five seconds, it left Huangfu Shenqing writhing in soul-deep, agonizing torment.
