Chapter 22: A Mother's Kindness and a Son's Filial Piety—Chaos in the Household
If possible, she too wished to enter the Celestial Origin Sect. No one yet knew about her awakening, but she did not wish to keep it hidden forever.
In any place, a true useless person was like an ant, easily crushed at any moment. That Chu Yu, merely having broken through the third tier, dared to attempt her life—what a humiliation!
“Madam, Seventh Young Master is waiting outside for you,” Lingxia, the maid attending Baili Yuan, lifted the curtain and helped her up to wash and dress.
“Xiao Qi? Let her in quickly.”
“Yes, I shall invite Seventh Young Master right away.”
Ji Yin swiftly entered, came to the bedside, and took Baili Yuan’s hand. “Mother, I missed you so much after just one day apart!”
Baili Yuan was momentarily stunned. Had she truly realized she was a girl, and changed her temperament? Her six sons were all independent and sensible; none had ever acted so spoiled before her.
“Seventh Young Master, Madam hasn’t dressed yet. Would you please wait outside for a moment?” Lingxia gently persuaded.
“Alright.” Ji Yin turned and went outside, sitting at the table to wait.
Once Baili Yuan had finished washing and dressing, she came to Ji Yin’s side. Today, her hair was arranged in a graceful high bun, adorned with a golden peach blossom hairpin, and her smoky pink silk brocade dress made her appear as lithe and youthful as a maiden.
“Mother, you’re so beautiful! If we go out together, people might think you’re my sister!”
“Such nonsense! Who talks about their mother that way? And besides, time is a relentless blade, making us old before we know it. I already have white hair.”

“Mother is the most beautiful in my eyes!” Ji Yin continued to flatter her.
Baili Yuan reached out and tapped Ji Yin’s head. “Child, don’t say such things again! Have you eaten breakfast yet?”
“Not yet. I came especially to eat with you.”
Baili Yuan gazed at Ji Yin, her eyes shining with affection, her hand gently caressing Ji Yin’s head. “Mother knows—my Xiao Qi has grown sensible and obedient.”
Having a daughter was truly different; she was like a warm little jacket close to her heart.
“I’ll hurry and arrange breakfast, lest Seventh Young Master goes hungry,” Lingxia quickly went off to make preparations.
“Mother, I have something I want to ask you. Will you promise me?”
“What is it?”
“I want to enter the Celestial Origin Sect too.”
She had just been acting so filial and harmonious, but the moment Ji Yin spoke, Baili Yuan’s face turned cold, her smile stiffening.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Mother said no, and that’s final!”

“I don’t want to be useless! I want to go to the Celestial Origin Sect, just like Father and my brothers.”
“You don’t need to!” Baili Yuan glared at Ji Yin. “From today onward, you are to stay at home—no going anywhere!”
Was this her warm little jacket? Baili Yuan suddenly felt that her white hair had grown all because of Xiao Qi; the child was simply exhausting her.
With Baili Yuan’s resolve so firm, Ji Yin realized this path was blocked. She stood up at once and headed outside.
“Where are you going? You haven’t had breakfast yet.”
“I don’t want it!”
“This child!” Baili Yuan clutched her chest in frustration.
Why had Xiao Qi suddenly decided to go to the Celestial Origin Sect?
Baili Yuan found herself unable to eat as well, and followed towards Ji Yin’s courtyard. The child had just learned her true identity—her heart must be undergoing great changes. Baili Yuan needed to be more understanding, to truly grasp what Xiao Qi was thinking.
Upon reaching Ji Yin’s courtyard, she discovered that Ji Yin had already run out of the residence!
