Chapter 16: As Convincing as the Real Thing
“Brother! Brother! Hurry, avenge me—kill that Ji scoundrel!” Chu Ming scrambled to his feet and rushed toward Chu Yu in a panic.
Chu Yu steadied Chu Ming and looked toward Ji Yin.
At the same time, Ji Yin was sizing him up.
“Demon, soul power detected! Just entered the third tier. There’s a force within him—he’s a spiritual cultivator.”
A third-tier spiritual cultivator—no wonder the Chu family is so formidable. Ji Yin gauged Chu Yu’s strength as their eyes met.
She could tell—he’s someone she can’t defeat right now.
“Master Ji, I noticed your strength has grown significantly. Have you awakened?” Chu Yu asked coldly.
At his words, the surrounding crowd gasped.
Has the Ji family’s useless one awakened?
Ji Yin smiled. No one in her family had noticed her awakening—could Chu Yu, who’d only just broken through to the third tier, really see through her?
“Isn’t it rather excessive for an awakened one to fight someone who hasn’t awakened? Why not spar with me instead?” Chu Yu continued.
Ji Yin understood immediately. He was deliberately claiming she’d awakened, hoping to use it as an excuse to kill her.
What a ruthless, calculating mind.
Before Ji Yin could speak, Chu Yu had already darted in front of her.
Such speed!
A fierce killing intent crashed over Ji Yin like a wave.
The hand holding the curtain moved suddenly; an invisible airflow struck Chu Yu’s wrist, instantly dispelling the soul energy he’d gathered.
Chu Yu gripped his numb wrist, warily scanning his surroundings.
That sneak attack just now was powerful! If the assailant had wanted his life, he’d have stood no chance. Had that strike landed on his vital point, he’d already be a corpse.
Still reeling in shock, Chu Yu couldn’t tell from which direction the attack had come.
Ji Shaochen hurried over, shielding Ji Yin behind him. “Xiao Qi, are you all right?”
“He almost killed me just now!” Ji Yin immediately complained, clutching her chest with a pained expression. “My chest hurts so much—could my heart have been shattered?”
Everyone glanced at Chu Yu; wasn’t his attack a bit too vicious?
Feeling the accusatory stares, Chu Yu’s heart burned with rage. He wished he could peel Ji Yin’s skin right off!
He had been ambushed, hadn’t even made a move! Yet Ji Yin acted so convincingly—if he had actually attacked, would Ji Yin still be standing here?
But whatever he said now, no one would believe him.
Ji Yin’s performance was so convincing it startled Ji Shaochen; he quickly took her wrist to check her pulse. Confirming she was unharmed, he breathed a silent sigh of relief.
Ji Yin winked at him secretly, leaving Ji Shaochen speechless.
“Chu Yu, it’s you who’s gone too far. How could Xiao Qi have awakened? If he had, none of us in the Ji family would know, and you, an outsider, would?”
“Not awakened? Then I must have been mistaken,” Chu Yu replied, cool and unruffled.
“If anything happens to my seventh brother today, I’ll make sure you pay double.”
Even as Ji Shaochen led Ji Yin away, Chu Yu never clarified that he hadn’t made a move—not because he was noble or above it, but because of his overwhelming confidence.
With his current rank and status, his future was limitless.
Having just broken through to the third tier, he was full of anticipation—third tier today, ninth tier and ascension tomorrow; it was only a matter of time! So what if he killed Ji Yin?
The Ji family’s legend would soon be shattered, and the one to do it would be Chu Yu himself.
