Chapter 13: So Envious, So Jealous, So Eager to Possess Such Power
Ji Yin lifted her head, gazing through the window at the full moon outside. Tonight, the moon was perfectly round—clearly, her Face-Changing Art had failed. Leaning back in the water, she couldn’t help but muse: Was her former self a fool? How could she not distinguish her own gender in the slightest? Or perhaps she’d always assumed men were just like that?
“My lady…”
“From now on, address me as Young Master. No need to change it,” Ji Yin instructed softly.
“Yes,” Shuang’er replied at once, bowing.
After her bath, Ji Yin felt refreshed all over and returned to her room, sitting on the bed. Shuang’er attended quietly by her side, which made Ji Yin rather uncomfortable.
“Shuang’er, you may go rest now.”
“Young Master, let me stay and serve you. In case you’re thirsty at night, or need to get up, or kick off your covers, I’ll be here to help.”
Ji Yin’s eye twitched.
“I’m not an overgrown baby who can’t look after herself. Go get some sleep.”
“Young Master, Madam instructed me to—” Shuang’er suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back and lost consciousness.
Ji Yin carried her to a bed in the side chamber.
This little girl is loyal indeed.
“Great Demon! Don’t you feel any pressure?” The voice of the Demon Cauldron suddenly echoed in her mind.
“Why should I?”
“That girl has already awakened her soul power. Even if it’s the most basic awakening, she’s nearly at the second tier.”
Indeed, Ji Yin was speechless—even her servant had awakened soul power. This must have been the Ji family’s arrangement, intending for this girl to protect her original self. Yet the former Ji Yin, ever courting disaster, disliked Shuang’er and avoided her at every turn!
If she’d kept Shuang’er close, she might not have been crushed by a pig, allowing Ji Yin to be reborn in her place.
Though she now possessed a spiritual vein and had broken through to the first tier of soul power, in terms of sheer strength, she still couldn’t best Shuang’er.
“Little Demon, try purifying a bit more spiritual energy for me. I need to grow stronger as quickly as possible.” Ji Yin sat on the bed, and the Demon Cauldron floated out of her body, hovering above her.
A stream of turbid energy flowed into the cauldron and was soon purified.
Ji Yin guided the purified energy into her body.
“No, this spiritual energy is too weak!”
“Great Demon, I can’t go on—this is my limit.”
Ji Yin opened her eyes and lay on her side, murmuring, “I have to help you grow stronger first. Only then can I become powerful.”
“I want to devour souls—souls rich with power,” the Demon Cauldron said, sounding aggrieved.
Ji Yin felt even more aggrieved. The spiritual energy here was so thin, and there were so few who had awakened—where could she possibly find a soul imbued with power?
“That little girl…”
“Don’t you dare have designs on her! No one from the Ji family is to be touched!” Ji Yin cut in at once, her tone resolute.
“Understood.”
Ji Yin turned over again, crossing her legs, her pale, delicate feet swinging idly. She couldn’t help but recall Lord Ji—so inscrutable, impossible to gauge. His strength likely surpassed Ji Yun’s.
If he truly possessed such power, he could walk unchallenged through this world.
Damn it—how envious, how jealous, how she longed for such strength.
“Alas! All I can do is look, never touch,” Ji Yin nearly pounded her chest in frustration.
“Great Demon, when we’re strong enough, let’s go devour him!”
“That, I can agree to!” Just imagining devouring Lord Ji’s soul power made her grin wickedly. But then she remembered how far off that day was, and her spirits plummeted.
“Sleep now. Tomorrow, we’ll go out and take a good look at this world—and maybe find you something to eat.”
